I visited the bar and grill in Mayfair for lunch on Easter Sunday. We arrived at approximately 13:50 for a 4:00 reservation. Getting seated was a bit of a struggle, but we eventually were seated relatively quickly. Upon seating, I tried multiple times to get the attention of the wait staff to order Beef Wellington, which was the main reason I booked this venue for lunch, as Gordon’s Beef Wellington is suppose to be some of the best. Unfortunately, I could not get anyone to take my order until 20 minutes after being seated, which was frustrating when I was there with 3 young children. Our daughter’s burger came out and when we asked for our son’s we were told it was on its way, but took another 15 minutes. We did have a nice conversation with the Sommelier, as he was the first employee to welcome us and was very hands on throughout our meal. I had ordered a bottle of PJ rose and wanted a recommendation for a bottle of red. I explained my wife generally only drinks Caymus (he was not familiar), and I mentioned a Seghesio wine on the list that we’ve had and I planned to spend around 200 pounds. He suggested DOMAINE PICHAT, although we were very disappointed with the wine and left after only drinking less than half the bottle. Nevertheless, the sommelier was 100% our best advocate and only person providing customer assistance. For a table of 4 adults, we ordered the Caesar x 2, California roll x 2, Sourdough Bread (recommended by the server), Beef Wellington, Halibut and A5 Wagyu, Spinach side, and a side of Mac and Cheese (which never arrived). I ordered the A5 wagyu since it was dry aged and from the same farm I regularly order from on CrowdCow; it was literally the only palatable item we ordered with a bill of just under 900 pounds for 4 adults. The Sourdough Bread did not arrive until after our salads, so I’m not sure the point in ordering bread as an extra, or why it took 15 minutes. The servers must have been changing during our meal, because the already poor service completely disappeared and after 20 minutes of being finished trying to flag down our bill, the servers on duty seemed clueless. Considering the high standards of Gordon Ramsay, I’m shocked at the quality and, more importantly, lack of service. You’d believe his procedures and expectations would be far superior. After a poor dining experience, I planned to cancel The Savoy Grill with 38 hours notice, and I explained my situation and was still told I’d be charged. Obviously they need every penny they can get since their food add service won’t be...

Me and my partner went to celebrate Valentine’s Day and also his birthday. We decided to use Valentine’s Day menu for our special occasion. I took the cocktail called something Atlantis around for £15 and it was tasteless. The fig cocktail was nice though.
Let’s get to the main problem. It’s the service and also the portion of the food. Service, they didn’t ask what should we drink. We needed to search and beg. There is one waiter guy who was working around 9pm at the entrance door wasn’t in to his job. He took our empty plates but left the empty glasses behind. For a while later another waiter from far noticed and took it. The manager lady was very nice, when we asked to change table we preferred to talk to her instead of the annoyed waiter. Really, this waiter just hates his job, even if you were polite and nice to him he didn’t care any less and not even at least a smile. If someone doesn’t like people should leave hospitality or work back in the kitchen instead of ruining experiences. If the service quality was good, maybe I could’ve given 4 stars review but this was a big bummer for us.
The dishes, I would say yes small quantity and overpriced but I’ve been in other restaurants so I understand the quality. The beef (forgot the name) valentines main menu was tasty despite that it was a small portion. The rest? Starters it’s like breadcrumbs. 1 of them was tasty the other ones was bland and it was like eating air. The desserts? Especially the brownie, had no difference then having a ready made brownie from Tesco.
For a Gordon Ramsey restaurant it’s awful. Food in general was tasteless and generic with nothing special. I don’t think this is an actual Gordon Ramseys approved kitchen/ chef because I’ve been at a restaurant called The Coil Office and there was a chef who attended master chef and managed to go until the finals from Isreal (if I’m not mistaken, he might’ve gotten to semi finals). And his food was amazing, different unrelated ingredients were creating a mill to tasty experience which was shockingly amazing. People even comes from Isreal to see him. After that experience this restaurant was a big disappointment. I wish I have a chance one day to taste Gordon Ramseys approved and loved food.
Ps. We went to eat after because we...
Read moreI ate at Gordan Ramsay Bar & Grill in Mayfair twice on consecutive nights (20 & 21 March) so got a good feel for the restaurant. I’m a lover of a good steak so had been looking forward to visiting the restaurant.
On arrival I was asked if I’d like some still or sparkling water. I asked for still water and was given a large bottle and the waiter filled my glass. I ordered the ‘dry-aged rare breeds’ 10oz Rib-eye cooked medium (cost £50), with Green Beans (£7) and Chimichurri sauce (£3.75). The steak was tasty and cooked perfectly. I don’t feel the steak was worth £50 however. I would consider a price of £38-39 to be reasonable considering the quality and location (Mayfair). The green beans which were served with confit shallots and hazelnuts were very good.
The following night I opted for tap water to drink and I ordered the USDA 12oz Rib-eye cooked medium (£78), with a mixed leaf salad (£6.50). I have to say that the steak was a disappointing. It didn’t match up to the tenderness and flavour of the steak the night before, and unlike the previous evening it was sadly not cooked to perfection. It was over cooked, arriving medium well, with only the smallest amount of pink visible. The mixed leaf salad was fine. I felt the steak was vastly overpriced. For £78 (plus 15% service charge) you can get some seriously better steak in London.
The restaurant adds a 15% ‘optional’ service charge to the bill. I’m not a fan of this at all. I feel it reduces the motivation of the staff to deliver outstanding service. The staff know full well that the vast majority of customers will never ask for the service charge to be removed even if they were not particularly happy with the service. I count myself as one of those. There’s no way I would have voluntarily added a 15% tip to the cost of these meals. The service provided was not to that level. On my 2nd visit I was given a steak knife, on my first I was not. Other than my glass being filled on the first evening when the bottle was brought to my table, the glass was not filled again. I filled it myself each time. To be clear, I’m perfectly ok filling my own glass, but if you’re going to charge me a 15% service charge I expect my glass to be filled. On neither visit was I asked if I was happy with how the steak had been cooked, which I found a little surprising for a restaurant...
