Not sure where to start, the entire experience for me was very disappointing. For a meal that I'd been looking forward to I left feeling hungry, looked down upon and underwhelmed. All of the front of house need to be properly trained. The waitress who served us has no place working within that team. Not one smile during the entire service. I would however say that the waiter who prepared food at the table and presented and talked through the food was very good. Given that it wasn't that busy it was pretty astounding to wait 20 mins for a sommelier and I don't understand why a wine list couldn't just be given to us rather than us having to wait and still never see a wine list so blindly ordering. Food was ok, some items were exceptional but some were distinctly average; the tartare with brioche buns was truly fantastic. The wait for food however just isn't acceptable and to be told the sushi section was very busy in a sushi restaurant was taking the Michael. Unfortunately the food turned up (45 mins after ordering) as we were speaking with the manager to leave, I really wish it hadn't. Some sort of acoustic baffling needs to be put in place, due to a large group of gentlemen being very loud it was impossible to hold a conversation at times. Having spent the best part of £200 a head I just don't see any value and there are plenty of other restaurants that you can spend that level of money in and have better food, ambience and hospitality; one that we had to go to after to actually satisfy our hunger. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and based on my feedback to friends a couple have since cancelled their...
Read moreWe were a party of 12 booked into the private dining room. The room itself is a beautiful spherical room on the rooftop with fantastic views overlooking Westminster.
Given the group size, we had to prebook the tasting menu in advance. Each course was incredibly small (even for a tasting menu) and came out at an excruciatingly slow pace - one course every 40-45mins on average. One member of our team was unable to eat shellfish, but was given a crab dish with caviar on top. The waiter was surprised when we said this wasn't suitable. There was another member of the group with severe allergies who really felt very uneasy by this.
After the fourth course (when they suddenly decided to bring out the group menu?) it became apparent that the dishes weren't going to be enough for the group so we asked if we could order a few dishes from the a la carte menu. Despite the restaurant being at what looked like 50% capacity, we were told this was impossible as we hadn't preordered and the kitchen wouldn't be able to cope. What difference it would have made had we been two separate tables of six, I'm unsure, but this was very disappointing especially of a restaurant of this calibre.
After much back and forth we were eventually allowed to order further dishes. However, aside from one waiter, the service was pretty poor overall and by the time the final dish had arrived, most of the group had given up and gone home. The bill came to well over £500/head. Overall, a very disappointing experience and I cannot recommend this restaurant...
Read more3 stars because of slow service and small portion of food. the overall setting seems to be more suitable for business dinner.
We ordered the tasting menu. the restaurants are not full (it’s a weekday), but the service was slow. Our dinner started at 7:15, and finished at 10pm for 7 courses with no wine pairing, which is slightly longer than expected (one of which is a palette cleanser, so technically 6 course). Between the first course and nigiri (second course) there was a 30 minutes gap, and the nigiri arrived after i raised my concern at 8pm (see timestamp on the photo) the waiter did explain it was due to a large party order, and reassured that the food from now on would arrive swiftly and it was indeed back on track. however the wait felt dreadful as the explanation came after prompting, and it made me ponder what would happen if the restaurant is actually full on a weekend?
The other question in my mind was that fact that we ordered tasting menu. everything should have been standardised or at least prepared. if we had order a la carte, would it be even longer??
the portion was also relatively small. left hungry unfortunately, despite ordering extra appetisers (could be because of the long wait, who knows?)
the food was great in my opinion. with some disappointment on Chawanmushi being served as a cold dish (was expecting a warm and cosy chawanmushi in winter, but that’s my personal preference). the acidity are present in all dishes, which makes me feel the dishes are more suitable for summer instead of...
