May be this is just my experience but it happened again !
I waited for 20 minutes for my coffee, only to realise that other customers were being served before me who came after. I had to go to the counter on both occasions to remind that I have been waiting, but yesterday I really felt humiliated because when I approached the staff they acted as if the payment had not gone through and I have been a difficult customer. I checked later in my bank statement and the payment had gone though. I am not sure if this was the factor, but as a person of colour being ignored in a white majority environment, it felt bad. I used to enjoy stopping by for coffee here before work, but not sure will go again. Disappointed.
Update- noticed owner’s comment today for this experience 3 weeks back- they have looked in to it and confirmed they had lost the receipt. They have apologised and have also discussed with their customer service to review - many thanks. I have changed my rating from 1 to 3, and will visit again- your coffee and croissants...
Read moreI used to be a near-daily regular here and still stop in from time to time when in the area. The food/coffee is nothing special and a bit overpriced, I always came for the vibe and good atmosphere despite that. Sadly won't be back anytime soon: I was disappointed to be asked to leave because of using a laptop on a Friday afternoon... When only one other person was sitting in the cafe, and they were using an iPad. Literally all the rest of the seats indoors were empty, just me and one other person. Obviously it's not a coworking space, and if it were busy I wouldn't have been there with a computer. For a cafe which has benefitted for years from allowing folks to come and work while they ate, to kick me out in this context was rude and pointless. There are better cafes on broadway market food wise, especially if I am required to write in a notebook (or iPad?) as opposed to my laptop to be allowed to sit in an empty cafe. Really disappointed, will...
Read moreI've been a regular for almost as long as this precious little cafe has been around. The coffee is great and so is the laid back vibe, although the food has gotten a bit more pricey with smaller portions. Not a great combo but at least it tastes good. EXCEPT the sweet pastries! For the past couple of years, the croissants and pain au chocolate have been mediocre, to be polite. Stale, chewy, tasteless. Not being a big complainer but priced at almost 4 pounds these days, I'm not impressed. Especially if you're a sort of french coffee house (clue is in the name). Please change the supplier. Climpson's and Pavilion does them sweet treats much better I'd have to say. Oh and please do be more stringent with your no-laptops policy on weekends. Last Sunday at least four seats were taken again with people who still don't seem to understand that a public cafe is not their private...
