Excellent is the word. Yes, this place is currently experiencing a social media wave, a phenomenon- but, and you have to trust me here, the cheesecake is actually… superb.
If you are a foodie, you gotta come here and try the genuine article, this is the right place for you. Make sure you take them up on the offer of a slice and cake for £7.50 as the coffee is okay enough and the flavours easily complement.
Now, expectations. Due to the demand and the realities of selling fresh cake slices, you will likely get a prepared slice from the fridge- but don’t freak out or anything, it’s only there to make sure the cream doesn’t sink. It’s still just as fresh, and the team are usually cutting fresh slices in the background to keep up with the queues.
The slice is smaller than in the social media posts, but I wouldn’t say that much smaller- it’s possible the size adjusts depending on the queue, to make sure they don’t completely run out of stock for later customers.
All in all the cheesecake is clearly fresh, the real deal, tastes spot on and is a lovely compliment to the day (if you can find a quieter time to visit). The staff are also lovely, very courteous, suggesting seating and making space for people. It’s clear the team have invested much of themselves into this store and they take pride in the quality of their produce. I’m very thankful for the service we experienced on the day. Everyone behind the counter is fantastic!
So, all in all, this place is a winner, try to avoid peak times if you can, but make the effort to come here. Give yourself this creamy treat,...

Read moreI wanted to try La Maritxu for a while, I attempted to go on a Saturday and was put off by the queue as there were 20 off people already waiting. Second attempt during the week, SUCCESS!
At first I was wondering what the hype is all about and after trying, I totally get it and it will be worth queuing for if you love cheesecake.
The cafe is very cute and nicely decorated, be prepared that seating is limited so if you going during peak hours take away is an expectation.
I agree with the employees there, the cake is best consumed around room temperature. If you want to take away and eat it immediately, ask for one served on a plate rather than take out box. There is literally a park across the seat where you can go and enjoy it the seats are all taken up.
Great selection of coffee available as well, definitely goes well together with the cheesecake. As the cake is quite rich, think a cappuccino will go well together.
The cheesecake itself. WOW, nicely done. The top half is fairly firm and the bottom half is nice and creamy. Have to say a great...
