I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT ( Masgouf Restaurant 41 Connaught St, London W2 2BB, UK مطعم المسكوف لندن ) TO ANYONE . BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE , BAD FOOD , BAD DECOR , VERY EXPENSIVE AND TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE . I went with my partner for a dinner for the first time in this restaurant as we like middle eastern food and I can tell that the experience wasn't impressive from the very beginning as we had to wait for about half an hour for our starters, we have ordered two soups one lentil and one chicken and when they finally arrived after long wait we have been brought lentil and a vegetable soup!!! and when we asked the waiter to change it he took it without even an apology or a sorry, and after couple of minutes we had the main courses (which are another story!) when we started the main courses I asked the waiter to cancel the chicken soup as it was supposed to be a starter!! and we were already having the mains, and again without any apology we have been told it's the chef's decision and if he already cooked it then we must have it!!! as if it was our fault that they missed up our order, and now for the main courses, I have ordered kebabs and my partner ordered fish (Maskouf!!! as they said) the kebab that I had was one of the worse, it was almost burned from outside and pink from inside socking in a watery salad! the fish was very cheap quality and overpriced, after all of that we had the final bill with the three soups in it (lentil, vegetable which we never ordered and chicken) we complained so they deleted the vegetable soup, so please don't waste your money for a less than average food and a customer service which is fairy described as RUBISH ..

P.S. Please stop telling people that " It is another place opened round the corner who is copying our famous name '' I have double checked the gallery on your website and it is the same restaurant not the one round the corner !!!!! And as a matter of fact your restaurant has 2 setting areas ( upstairs and downstairs ) and we sat downstairs . Unfortunately I did not keep the receipt but I have uploaded a copy of my bank statement which shows that a payment have been taken from Masgouf...

Review: Extremely Disappointing Experience

I am writing to share my extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. Although I am not a regular visitor, I was invited by a client from Egypt who is known at this establishment. He asked me to join him for lunch, and I was looking forward to it.

During our meal, everything seemed to be going well. However, when I stood up to pay for the entire bill for both myself and my client, the restaurant manager, Mr. Rabbee, refused to let me pay. He insisted that my client, Mahmoud, who is a regular patron, would not be happy if I settled the bill. I insisted on paying, but Mr. Rabbee continued to deny my request.

At that moment, my client was outside having a cigarette, so I took the opportunity to inform him about the refusal to accept my payment. A week after my client returned to Egypt, I received a call from him asking whether I had managed to pay the bill. I mentioned that the manager had indicated he would be upset if I did. To my surprise, my client had no idea that the bill was unpaid, as the restaurant never contacted him for the payment!

I immediately called the restaurant to clarify the situation. I was informed that Mr. Rabbee was on holiday, but I spoke with gentlemen named Shehabb and Alaa, who assured me they would investigate. I requested that they send me the invoice and account details via WhatsApp, which they did, and I settled the invoice as soon as possible.

I find the restaurant’s behavior to be both unnecessary and unprofessional. When a customer offers to pay the bill, it should be accepted without hesitation. I made it very clear that I wanted to settle the bill, and it is disappointing that this issue arose in the first place.

I hope the management reflects on this experience to ensure that other customers do not face similar issues...

Today was the first time we came here. My wife and son ate the lamb kebab, and they both loved it. My wife said it was the best mince lamb on a skewer she has ever eaten. And she has eaten at many places. My 3 year old son ate twice as much as he normally would, which is his way of saying he liked it. My wife said the meat was full of flavour and tender. I ate rice top with piped and cooked pomegranate along with an aubergine stew. It was very nice with a good balance of spices. With fresh aubergine and a deep red curry sauce. I would prefer it to be more spicy, and the chilli sauce provided was OK. Next time I'll ask for some chillies. We also had a variety of baklava for dessert and a complimentary rice pudding for my son. The Iraqi tea at the end helped wash it down. I almost forgot. At the start they give a huge bowl of olives, pickled veg and salad veg to munch on. A great healthy start to the meal. Great service and will definitely be recommending the...

If you want to avoid paying cash only in those Levantine restaurants in the entire Edgware Road, please make your way for Masgouf! An Iraqi restaurant situated in Connaught Street away from the buzzing crowd in Edgware Road where you can get to see a quieter much lively atmosphere in this area. Especially we went during Christmas Eve for dinner, we didn’t waste no time so we ordered the Lamb Shoulder (since there was 3 of us) accompanied with Bagella Rice (traditional Iraqi Rice) but it was succulent and incredibly delicious. Costs about £70 plus service charge the bill came at £78. Which is freaking amazing price for a meal of 3 hungry foodies. We got served Mahalabia (sweet milk pudding) as a complementary dessert to end the meal. We were super stuffed. This dinner really paid off. Nice customer service and friendly staff - and they accept card and cash payments!

Food average but reasonably priced. Service not to standard. Upstairs small but lots of space downstairs. Clean toilets. Clean restaurant. Pre booked window seats upstairs TWO WEEKS in advance for a small family get together to welcome my hubby to the country. Got there and was told no booking so had to wait outside whilst people inside finished. Staff were cold and rude. We were eventually seated near the door .... needless to say it was cold and they couldn’t close it completely. Food was OK, reasonably priced - typical Iraqi menu, sea bass wasn’t as great as I had hoped. Restaurant deceptively small - there’s actually a nice space downstairs. Wouldn’t come again purely because there are better restaurants in the area with better food and service.
