Indulgent Shawarma Delights at Le Bab, King Court, London
If you're craving an adventure for your taste buds, look no further than Le Bab! From start to finish, our dining experience was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the impeccable service from our host Ferris.
We kicked off our culinary journey with the Flatiron Hummus, a delightful twist on a classic with succulent BBQ flatiron steak nestled atop creamy hummus, drizzled with chimichurri and shallot relish. Paired with warm, pillowy flatbread, it was a symphony of flavours that set the stage for what was to come.
Next up the star of the show was the Le Bab Fried Chicken, a crispy sensation coated in a sticky date, chilli, and soy glaze that left us speechless. The homemade garlic mayo added a creamy kick, while the spring onions provided a refreshing crunch—every bite was pure bliss.
But there was a newcomer, the Harira Dip. Warm lentil and chickpea goodness, perfectly complemented by herb yoghurt and parsley, made for a dip that was both comforting and vibrant. Paired with fluffy flatbread, it was a match made in foodie heaven.
For mains, we dove into The Dirty Bab—a sinful delight featuring grilled free-range lamb Adana, glazed in lamb jus and served with pickled cucumbers, chimichurri chilli sauce, and their signature fondue sauce. The explosion of flavours was simply mind-blowing, especially when paired with the double-cooked fries and foragers mix.
Not to be outdone, the Mix Grill Kebab showcased the mastery of charcoal-grilled free-range chicken shish and lamb Adana. With pickled red cabbage, chilli sauce, garlic mayo, and mesclun leaves, each bite was a journey through layers of tantalizing tastes and textures.
And let's not forget to quench our thirst with their refreshing house-made Lemonade—a perfect balance of sweet and tangy that refreshed our palates between bites.
In conclusion, Le Bab never ceases to amaze, consistently delivering innovative takes on classic dishes with flair and finesse. Whether you're a shawarma aficionado or simply seeking an unforgettable dining experience, Le Bab is a must-visit destination. Plus, with halal meat options available, there's something for everyone to savour. Trust me, your taste buds will...
Read more1st time I went here it was great. Today, the 2nd time... we were asked to leave WHILE eating our main course. Really rude, especially as the restaurant wasn't full and there were other tables + bar space available. We had a reservation but weren't told this would happen when we arrived or booked. I'm also pretty sure that other people had been there longer than we had. The food didn't arrive super quick, so even if there was a set time then under an hour would not have been long enough to wait for the food, eat our starters, mains and dessert.
Again, if there was a time limit then we should have been informed because my friend had come down from Manchester and the three of us were catching up for the first time since pre-lockdown... a rushed meal was not what we were looking for.
Being told to leave was also not said in an apologetic or necessarily pleasant way, it was just like "you have 10 minutes to finish, we need to take the table for another reservation.".... as if we weren't paying customers who hadn't already spent like £57.
Never, even in the busiest of restaurants have I ever been told to essentially leave within 10 mins WHILE eating (and without being informed this would happen while booking). I'll emphasis that the next reservation had not even arrived, there were no queues, no one waiting to be seated, and no one else being noticeably rushed.
Really really really bad management and service.
The first time I went the food was great. This time it was over cooked, the fried chicken shish looked great but was dry and cold. The starter sharing platter was actually nice, so just a shame about everything else.
I really love Kingly Court, there's so much choice and so much good food! So there's no reason to choose somewhere like this. We definitley won't be going...
Read moreI had been to Maison Bab a couple of years ago and remembered how good the food and ambience was....and the price! Incredibly good value for healthy food (I wouldn't call it full on health freak healthy, but it's better than the very rich food found in some restaurants). So I decided to check out Le Bab.
Sat on the top floor of Kingly Court, it doesn't feel too touristy and the clientele weren't when we were there. The two of us had a lovely time chatting as the full open windows allowed a cool breeze into the restaurant that gave a lovely on-holiday feel. The atmosphere is bustling but the volume is such that it's easy to hear each other and speak across the table.
Onto the food. We had:
Organic padron peppers - I always order this. The black lime and chilli salt are a great twist on how I normally have it in Spain.
Le Bab Fried chicken - I think they use chicken thighs with all their chicken which is just as healthy as breast but cheaper. It's funny how people focus on breast when buying chicken not to realise that there is a significant markup but the health factor is the same as thigh. Very happy with this choice.
Organic Broccoli with Chipotle Tahini - wow, thought I'd experiment as I'm not a broccoli fan but it was beautifully cooked and the tahini was the...er...icing on the cake.
Free range chicken shish kebab - I've never had a kebab quite like this before. Such a fantastic mixture of flavours. Definitely get this when you go.
Service was efficient, friendly and paying for the bill was easy. You'd be amazed the number of places where getting the bill and paying becomes a bit of a chore!
Check out Le Bab if you're near Oxford Circus and Maison Bab if you're in Covent Garden. I'll do a review on Maison Bab soon...I am definitely...
