We came here for our wedding anniversary after a lovely day in London and this place was perfect. We loved the atmosphere and our waitress, Daniela, was very welcoming, friendly and attentive.
We went for the Bay of Bengal taster menu and it did not disappoint. Daniela brought us the 1st two dishes which were:
Small Myanmar Scorched tomato sambal shan tofu | 8.5 Burmese chickpea tofu fritter served with a smooth red pepper sauce, fre burnt tomato and lime leaf sambal, drizzled with fermented bean chilli oil.
The dish was delicious, spicy and well presented.
Thailand stone fruit som tam / 8.5 The quintessential salad of thailand. scasonal summer stone fruit, thai basil and crispy shallots in spicy sour tamarind dressing.
Again, delicious and the spiciest out of the two.
The second main dishes were:
Big / Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia Bay of Bengal thali / 19,5 A colourful platter of spiced fried cauliflower and new potato in a cream caramelised onion sauce, served with two tangy sambals, a fresh heirloom tomato cucumber salad and flaky paratha bread.
This platter was unreal. So much flavour and the cauliflower and potatoes were so tasty.
Big / Thailand pineapple som geng 10,5 Thai tamarind peanut curry, spicy pineapple lime leaf sambal. crispy fried shallots, rice noodles.
I personally love anything that has a peanut sauce and this was so warming and beautifully put together.
Whilst you share the above dishes, you get a dessert each which was a nice surprise.
Sweet / India Burnt mango rasmalai cheesecake 9,0 Basque style burnt cheesecake, served with a cardamom infused saffron cream, garnished with rose and pistachio.
This, on paper, looked set to be an amazing dish. It was well decorated and was looking forward to it but the saffron cream really threw the dish and we tried so hard to like it but just couldn’t eat it which is a shame.
Regardless, the food really tickled the tastebuds and Daniela’s friendly service made the whole experience enjoyable and would love to come back again to try the other tasting menu. Thank you...
Read moreA group of friends visited last night and we all commented on the poor service we received. Possibly the worst customer experience I've ever had in London. We ordered from the festive menu as well asthe regular menu. The waiter tried to leave before taking everyone's order, we had to say that we were still trying to order. We had ordered 1 starter, 3 mains and 2 desserts. The waiter brought out 2 mains. After waiting for the other group member to be brought their food (which didn't arrive) we had to flag a member of staff to investigate. The waiter eventually came to say the starter will be served in 5 minutes. When asked if the mains could be taken back because they were getting cold, he ignored us and left. He then brought the start and the main for the 3rd party member within 2 minutes. But the 2 mains that he served 10 minutes ago were now cold. The (cold) food was fairly nice apart from the yorkshire pudding which was stodgy and under-cooked. After the plates were the cleared the waiter disappeared but came back ~15minutes later to ask if we wanted anything else. Clearly hinting that he wanted us to get the bill. We had to explain that we were still waiting for our order. At which point he scowled and walked away - no apology for the wait, no explanation that he would check with the kitchen. 10 minutes later the desserts arrived. The sticky toffee was average at best. It needed cream to cut through the sweetness but it was paired with a caramel ice cream instead. Overall the food was ok - a few issues, and I was very disappointed to have a cold main when paying £35 for 2 courses. The service was poor, long wait times, extremely disorganised, no acknowledgement when we we asking for things and definitely no apology at any point. I've been to other branches of Mildred's before and had good experiences but this...
Read moreWent on a weekday evening to catch up with a friend as they were vegetarian.
Such a great choice of options, especially for vegetarians at a reasonable price considering it’s in central London!
Service was pleasant and didn’t feel rushed - one waitress attempted to be helpful around dietary queries, e.g. when asking about the main component of the pulled meat enchiladas. This was as I find seitan/pure wheat gluten plant based meats uncomfortable on the stomach! I was then reassured the main component was mostly soya but that wheat wasn’t exempt from the “meat” as it may be used to bind the meat which was fine.
I opted for the enchiladas nortenas - including a smoky pulled protein in wheat tortilla, salsa roja, cheez sauce, pico de gallo, guacamole, jalapeno slaw, refried beans. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish, rich in flavour, well seasoned and that cheesy flavour really came through! My friend opted for the kimchi bokkeumbap gut healthy kimchi fried rice, organic salt & pepper tofu, sweet gochujang chilli dressing, garlic aioli and nori. This was reported to also be delicious.
I had a glass of Malbec 'punto alto' (Argentinian) whilst my friend had a Dalston’s peach soft drink.
We would recommend this restaurant to all! Especially as it’s a great place with an array of options from various cuisines for veggies and vegans. Or those that just fancy trying more plant based dishes! It had a great atmosphere, visibly more new looking restaurant compared to the other Mildred’s branches. Easy to converse and catch up in as it wasn’t...
