It's one of the very best dining clubs in the world. The inspiration of acclaimed chef Anton Mosimann. Opened in an old church called the Belfry 1988. Reputed to be where the Duke of Edinburgh had his stag night. It's a truly great establishment. Try a signature menu never beaten for the ultimate gourmet experience. I have been coming here since the opening. Anton and his two sons Mark and Philipp are expertly carrying on a fine tradition of impeccable dinning. Looking forward to my next visit.
My next visit was last week when I introduced a potential new member to this amazing striking venue in Halkin St. With a culinary experience to match the surrounding. The Veal Sweetbreads perfection, the Beef Cheeks to die for couldn't be surpassed, followed by my favourite Bread and Butter pudding with vanilla ice cream. All with a delicate Spanish Rioja. We were admirably served in the true Mosimann way, polite, professional, and smiling. The staff are wonderful always attentive but not obtrusive. Will be be back again soon, thank you for the experience dinof eating at Mosimann's Back again at Mosimmans to celebrate the retirement of Anton Mosimman. Read moreThe Private Dining Club Belfry, founded many years ago by Anton Mosimann in the charming small church in the quiet and elegant London district of Belgravia, near the German Embassy, is a place like no other in London.
With his humble, warm, and kind yet equally visionary and innovative approach, Anton Mosimann, the most renowned Swiss chef in London, created a true refuge here. The creaking staircase leading up to the bar, the moment spent studying the menu while enjoying one of the exquisite drinks upstairs, and then, finally, the moment when guests are invited down to the former nave to begin their lunch or dinner—these are experiences that leave a lasting impression.
The event rooms in the upper part of the church, the countless photographs, paintings, and memorabilia that celebrate Anton’s glorious decades in London—no visitor and no club member remains untouched by the unique energy of this place.
I still remember when I first experienced The Belfry many years ago. Anton handed me his then highly pioneering book “Natural Cuisine,” and I was fascinated—not only by the visionary approach to food but also by the unexpected details in his refugium: for example the mouthwash and an open fireplace in the restroom —something unheard of at the time—and, most of all, the truly unparalleled atmosphere that fills Anton’s church.
Now, his two smart sons have taken over, leading the club into what is sure to be another golden era. Meanwhile, Anton Mosimann has opened his own lovely museum at the César Ritz Colleges in Port-Valais, in the Swiss canton of Valais.
Whenever your travels take you to Valais (and there are certainly many reasons to visit—Matterhorn!), be sure to stop by Anton Mosimann’s incredible museum, which showcases thousands of mementos from his decades of success as a chef in London and...
Read moreHaving anticipated our private dining experience at this prestigious location we were, sadly, underwhelmed by the experience. The quality and presentation of the food was not what we expected and frankly was disappointing. The seared fillet steak main course was akin to a gently grilled piece of steak accompanied by a non descript gravy, 2 small overcooked chateau potatoes and a tablespoonful of peas with a few flakes of root veg which were described as country vegetables. The biggest disappointment however was the accommodation. The private dining room was shabby and about the size of an average broom cupboard. The mont blanc chandelier was dusty. The wall coverings were scuffed in several places and with grease marks on one of the walls. To cap it all, one of the speaker covers from the ceiling fell off and hit me on the head during the meal!
The highlight of the evening really was our waiter J but we were disappointed to know that we could not leave him a tip unless we had cash because he was only a "casual" worker and could not benefit from any gratuity added to the card payment. All in all we have dubbed this The Broom Cupboard Experience and we would not choose to return as a Casual Diner. If you are a member of the club I am sure you may have a different view and a completely...
