I went there on 10/10/15 my wifes 50th birthday, a special evening, was recommended by our hotel St James Court, my dissatisfaction was not enough vegetarian dishes for my wife only 2 choices, i had the fillet of beef which had a bit of stringy fat, and to top it all off, they emailed me to surprise my wife with a special 50th birthday treat, wow but first of all we both had a sweet as was still hungry, once finished they arrived with a chocolate icecream in a chocolate hot sauce with a candle and a pathetic happy birthday song, how on earth do you supply a sweet and then another sweet on top, knowing full well we cannot digest this on top, surely they could have told me don't order a sweet as we have enough as a special 50th, will never ever go back there again, it was supposed to be a one in a million night as a special celebration for my wife, and am sorry but Zafferano's did not make it special in anyway way whatsoever but was happy to take 13.5% service charge, it was a massive massive one off I explained this before booking and they assured me they cater for vegetarians, which they do but only 2 dishes, which i was not told about, sorry to go on but it was a total nightmare, not use to fine dining my poor wife asked for garlic bread in the end, sorry we don't do that, surely they could have done it as a one off, as she was starving, the food was definitely not the standard I expected 😢.... The dessert was actually not bad quite good I had the Eton mess and very sweet and tasteful and maybe the water nothing else to commend. I had a steak tatare one of the black truffle specials and for £50 l was very shocked. The truffle had no smell and no flavour on it at all and absolutely absurd for £50. Then I had a lobster pasta which was a classic dish I always had 7 years ago and expected it to be delicious. I was shocked no lobster taste at all I had to add copious amounts of pepper and salt to have some sort of taste so disappointing. The restaurant was also empty and on a Saturday night really says something about the food quality and taste. Overall very disappointing and would not recommend at all to anyone. The appetizers were ok, the Insalata di granchio e avocado al succo di pomodoro fresco £20.50 was fresh and tasty and the Carpaccio di manzo di Pozza con rucola e Parmigiano £19.50 was ok (although the Carpaccio slices were quite thick). My Tagliolini con granchio, zucchine e prezzemolo £23.50 was good (not exceptional, but the right porcion). Now, the Cotoletta di vitello alla Milanese £44.50 (!!!) was a complete disappointment... unfortunately. The meat was rather thin and tough (fresh veal can be cut with the fork) and the breaded part was thick. This you can expect at at fast food bus stop for £9.99, but NEVER at pretentious restaurant for £44.50!!!! Please! If the chef is aware of the poor quality, he should simply not offer this plate. Less then 10% of the veal was eaten. The rest was left untouched. The waitor never even asked why. Too bad....
