This isn’t going to be a fake review so apologies if it’s not what you would like to read but it has to be real. My partner is Mexican and I have visited many times. I LOVE Mexican food and whenever I see a Mexican resto in London I’m always up to go..him not so much because he’s always disappointed because it’s never authentic. He didn’t come with me because of this and I’m glad he didn’t because he’d have been disappointed. Since Mexican food is trending at the moment in London, with actual Mexicans running it you’d think that this would be up to the same standard as them. Now I really thought this place was set up or run by Mexicans not sure why I thought this but we went for my birthday. Bottomless brunch. Firstly the restaurant wasn’t that busy and we were pretty much alone upstairs apart from two other tables so it should not have taken 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order for the next drink. I Mind you this is for 90 minutes. Not to mention it was 20 minutes before we got asked for our food. The food. I asked for chilaquiles verdes which is one of my favourites. It looked OK, fancier than I’ve had which was expected here but the salsa verdes didn’t taste like salsa verde. I’m not sure what it was but it wasn’t that nice and truly I’m not a fussy person. Regardless of whether it was authentic Mexican or not I’d have enjoyed it but it didn’t taste good. I ate it anyway because I’m paying for it. My friends Caesar salad was soggy leaves and croutons which leads me to believe this salad is not fresh. Next up was another fav of mine the flautas. Oh boy..you’re supposed to have the shredded chicken plain so that the sauces on top shine and flavours don’t clash but they seasoned it so much it tasted smoky and it didn’t go together with the sauce on top. I was so disappointed in this. Dessert was just..my friend left her mango sorbet because it was closer to aqua Fresca, way tooo liquid. I had to wait so so long to get my drinks in between it wasn’t worth it. Anyway despite that I had 4 sangrias and was stone cold sober so I believe it was a splash of wine with other ingredients. The guy who served us was very lovely I have to say but it wasn’t fair that we had so much time before we were asked to order other drinks. My glass was empty for a while and had to even ask the seating host for a drink. I paid £68 I believe and I wasn’t happy with the price of the food considering the quality was poor. That salad was absolutely shocking it’s laughable 😭 I wouldn’t spend a penny here and I hope it’s not Mexican owned because that would be a travesty. I get the location is London Bridge but that price for what you get is rubbish. If you want actual Mexican food in London I know a few places but this isn’t it! Maybe that was the goal, to make it for BRITISH people? Who knows. Sorry for being honest I know that’s not what other people in the reviews are doing but you...

It is a bit of mixed emotions, to be honest. This is a very honest review about my experience yesterday.

Booked in advance as I was celebrating my graduation, came with my family and friends, we came from Canterbury, my graduation was in London and after being busy all day with the ceremony we were ravenously hungry. I was very tired and hungry.

I am Mexican, and I really wanted to treat my guests with something authentic and make my day extra special to have real mexican food after being over a decade away from my country. It was very disappointing.

First, the menu was extremely reduced. We were really looking forward to having things we saw online, but we contented ourselves with what they had. We were too hungry and tired to go to another place.

Starters arrived, and they were ok, but tiny. I've never been in a mexican restaurant where the salsa is served so scarcely in a ramekin. I spilt a salsa on my dress, and everyone gave me their napkins. The waitress witnessed this, and she did not offer any more napkins. We ordered drinks, and they were wrong. My husband did order a michelada and received a chelada. The main dishes arrived and they were very small, and my main dish was missing, The portions were so small that after my guests finished their food, my food arrived and by this time I had finished my side dish as well. One of my friends ordered the tree milk cake and it was very dry. My husband had to ask where the cake was because it was taking a very long time. I did step outside with one of my guests, and when I returned to the table, they told me they ordered second drinks, which never arrived. The waitress seemed very unexperienced, and the male waiter seemed more experienced, but he seemed overly engaged in being with another table that was sat at our side, and it seems that they were given the wrong order. He gave them the food for free as they seemed to be regulars, but the rest of the tables were mainly attended by the waitress. Unfortunately, we will not be returning as we had experiences in other restaurants where the portions were larger and the price seemed more fair than what we were offered in here.

We are not fishing for a freebie we don't live in London we tried to make our day special as it was a very important day but when visiting again we won't...

Out for dinner with colleagues this week.

Table booked and confirmed for 17:15

We were running late due to Victoria line overcrowding and phoned ahead to say we'd be 10mins late and told that was fine, no problem.

We arrived as we'd said, 10mins late, to find our table had been sold. Asked to sit and wait, not offered drinks whilst we waited.

after c10mins we were taken to a table and sat down. Staff asked to take our coats as service was busy and room at a premoum.

Ordered Cocktails, which prmptly arrived and were very very good!

We ordered the sharing beef 500g as well as several other dishes to share.

A little while later the Maitre de came over to explian the had no beef left save for one single 200g portion of the sharing plate. We decided to order the lamb shank along side that remainig 200G as the alternative.

Food arrrived a little while later, minus the steak, and was all average to good in terms of quality and taste.

A little while passed and the food on the table was getting cold as we ate but we'd not recieved the sharing steak so asked after it.

With that the Maitre de retunred and flat out blammed the Chef in that he'd cooked it for another customer.

The fact that the staff didn't know a significant portion of the menu was not available and then our reorder was clearly not taken propely and subsequently we'd been lied to by front of house put a significant downer on the evening.

Nothing more was offred by way of an apology, offer of money off the bill, alternaitve dish ect .

By this stage the evening was taking a sour turn and so we did not complain as our genuine feeling was that to do so would be wasted breath and we wanted to get on and enjoy what was left of the night elsewhere.

We were getting ready to leave and were essentailly blanked actually ended up getting our own coats as two staff memebers stood chatting right next to the stack of coats ( one being hte maitre de).

We'll not be going back and would not adivse anyone to do the same.

Poor...

A very disappointing evening down at Santo Remedio. The restaurant itself is a little charming place with tasteful deco, but that where it ends. The food is average at best, most dishes boarder on the blame and tasteless, but at high-end prices. The only saving grace were the prawn and fish tacos. Wish we had orders more. The service on the other hand was shockingly bad. The waiting staff, were inexperience, lack customer service skills and simply didn’t have a clue. They were more interested in chatting than keeping an eye on their guests. We lost count the number of times we had to grab their attention, despite sitting right next to the service station. We asked them to replace the pork tacos that were cold, and heard the manager ask the waitress in a loud and disrespectful tone, “ which customer said it was cold”. The dish was taken back to the kitchen and replaced in less than 30 seconds, yes I did time it, as I could see the kitchen. Now you judge what they did, clearly aren’t made fresh to order. I now see why they’re lost their one star and have a lot to do if they want it back. Showcasing their 2021 Michelin star plaque proudly at the entrance, is very misleading, given they are so far from the quality and standard you come to expected. How they are still on the Michelin star guide, is beyond us. They do make some awesome cocktails, but that doesn’t make up for the poor food and shocking service We won’t be returning and rather eat at one of the Mexican chains down the road.

My gf and I had an incredible time here. We came for a Friday date night and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff but also by how full we ended up by the end of the night. The quality of food was great! Mexican food always has ways to be expressive in so many dimensions but Santo Remedio does a real mean pork belly and tuna. We started of with the salsa verde and also tried their fried fish tacos (fish and chips styled with a twist), the corn and the plantains (they were the "bomb"). Staff were incredibly helpful and gave good recommendations. Of the ones we tried, we would also recommend the tuna tacos, the pork belly taco and plantains (side). Restaurant feels very cozy and homey. I will be honest and say that the night wasn't 100% perfect, but the staff came with quick helpful suggestions and remediations that made the night that much more memorable and pleasant. (huge shout out to the waitress who served us despite us not knowing her name, but she knows who she is because she was amazing!!! We only hope the tip we gave was enough). Would give the staff rating a 6/5 if I could but I cant :( Though it was only our first time, this is not your "average" London hit-miss/just above average restaurant. It's worth every penny, and I will be back for sure.
