Popped in for a quick bite to eat before going to the theatre. Ordered salt and pepper squid, which was larger than expected but had little to no salt or pepper, but there were condiments on the table so that was an easy fix. Ordered 2 toasties, as my plate was placed on the table I could see something crawling in the "side salad" spoke to a member of staff who took my plate -he did apologise- for all of about 30 seconds and then brought it back to the table minus the creature. This was not sufficient time to have taken it back to the kitchen and a member of the bar staff had removed the creature and just handed back the plate, without even changing the salad. So I did not eat. This also put off other members of my party as my daughter managed to about a 1/4 of her toastie but couldn't eat anymore as witnessing something crawling out of my salad had understandably put her off her food too. My friend who had ordered a salad from the menu (along with the squid) only ate bits from the top as she didn't really want to eat it, knowing the lettuce had come from the same place as mine. It was only when we were leaving we were asked if I wanted a fresh toastie but it was far too late by then and we had a show to watch. Even if we hadn't I would not have taken it anyway. An utter waste of money, very disappointed. Perhaps looking into how salad is stored, and ensuring that it is properly washed would be beneficial. Lovely building.

My friend asked us out for a birthday lunch and multiple persons in our party ordered medium done steak but all received rare steak. Couple of us sent it back to cook it a bit more. They brought it back after a few minutes and it was cold and not cooked any better. Some friends were jocking that they stuck it in a microwave for a few minutes but that wasn't even the case as previously mentioned, the steaks were brought back cold. Myself and some of the other party member can still eat rare steak but the birthday girl does not so she just had some of the chips and tomato. Apart from the fact that it was undercooked it was also very bland, no salt or peper in sight, we added massive amounts to give it a bit of taste. We have not sent the food back again as we could visibly see how upset the birthday girl was for having the meal ruined and we did not wanted to accentuate that feeling and ruin even more what should have been a happy occassion. The 2 star rating is only to the bar and waiting staff as they were nice and polite for the short interactions that we had. Saw another review that had the same issue with the stake and said that it was followed by terrible diarrhea and vomiting so I hope that's not following for us also.

Sawyers Arms is a popular, busy traditional pub in Paddington, just 2 minutes from the station. Like (all too) many pubs in central London it is now owned by Greene King brewery, which of course entails the dominance of their beers on tap, but - thankfully - there's also a selection of guest ales. The pub is spread over a number of rooms on two levels, and there's a small outside seating area on the street, too. You will find Sawyers Arms to be extremely busy in the evenings, so you may find it hard to secure a table inside at peak hours. The food is simple and streamlined. This is one of at least three Greene King pubs within a three-minute radius (another one is just on the other side of the street). Many Paddington fleabag hotels are located just around the corner, so it may be a good place for a final pint before you turn in for the night.

We wanted to order food and went three times to the bar to order, they were willing to serve us beer but not food. First time in the bar and we already have a table. Bartender: you cannot order now, you have to wait one hour because we have many guests waiting for food in the dining room. I go with a beer in my hand to my friends and ask if they want to wait. We agree to wait. We see an elderly couple getting food in the bar. I go a second to the bar to order, explain that others in the bar get food. Same response. I go back to my table to finish our beers before we leave. Now we see guests at three tables in the bar who arrived after us get food (one family with children, two elderly couples). We ask a waitress if we can order. First she says we have to wait an hour. We explain that people arriving after us are getting food and she tells us to go the bar. I go a third time to the bar, say we want to order and that we can wait. Now the bartender ask the manager before he can take our order, the manager comes and say we cannot order food because there are many waiting . I explain that others are getting food who arrived after us and ask one more time if we can order and that we can wait. Manager answers that they cannot take any orders. I ask: so you don't want us to order? The manager plays stupid and says: I dont know what you are talking about. For me it is clear that we, four business professionals, were expected only to drink beer and not eat, more profit for the bar. Very bad attitude. If you are travelling with children it appears as you can get food, please note that all others are encouraged only to drink beer. I would not go there with...
