Smash & Shake — Restaurant in London

I was in London for a brief period, 28-29 Nov 2024. & staying in the local area. I'm a burger lover, & enjoy trying New venues. I was feeling really hungry, & noticed Smash and Shake, and went indoors. The place venue was clean, tidy, modern & welcoming. Moving around, comfortably. The seating plan was perfect. Was approached by members of Mahin (Mohammed) & the Chef. Staff were polite, pleasant & good manners.

Usually I'm accustomed to a bit of kick/spice to my burger taste. But, the 87 BURGER meal deal, looked appetising. The burger muffin, was spot on, soft, glazed, & tasty.Even tho it was very slightly bland, for my personal taste, I CANNOT FAULT the overall taste of the combo. Burger meat was soft, tasty, not overcooked, with the combination of egg, turkey rashers, the sauce, gherkins, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT & filling. Chips perfect, with salt & pepper. I chose a carbonated drink with meal.

Previously ate here 3 months ago and wrote a 5* review as it WAS good. However this place has definitely gone downhill. Went today and ordered the same dynamite chicken burger, messy fries and tried something new- the honey glaze spice chicken strips. Food was cheap, barely warm, the mocktail was given in a takeaway cup with straw- rather than mocktail glass like previously. The fries were barely warm soggy cheap quality- could’ve made it myself as I'm a terrible cook too. The burger was worse than my local chicken selekt. The chicken strips were basically COSTCOs chicken strips with honey thrown on top- again barely warm. So disappointed as it was mine and my friends IFTAAR- so we’d obv been fasting all day. Been around London today and visited this place after seeing their great reviews and hoping to have a great burger rising up to the standards of their ranking. Unfortunately I was not very pleased to see that the staff was not very happy to be there, no ambiance or music played to make a good atmosphere for the clientele, completely quiet and somber so this or going to a funeral would have been preety similar. The burger I've ordered was bland and had no flavor whatsoever, the ingredients were good, you can tell they use good quality products but it seems like the basic salt and papper are not available for the cook to use or he just refuses to.. wouldn't hurt to season your burgers and your sause in the future.
