Sotto Cucina & Bar — Restaurant in London

We were given a 30 percent discount after checking in to use at the zoom restaurant which is located inside the Hyatt hotel. The menu looked decent but not too many options. We went down for dinner around 6pm, there was no one in the restaurant and considering we went on a Friday night this was slightly concerning however we decided to give it a go. We were greeted by our waiter who was accommodating and got our food and drinks order fairly quickly. I ordered a sirloin steak medium rare, my girlfriend ordered a ribeye steak medium. The food arrived and was a massive let down. My steak seemed to be cooked in every single rarity, initially it looked too rare and then the other half looked very well done. The steak also seemed to not be freshly made, which would also be disappointing if this is the case. My girlfriends steak was exactly the same. The chips were okay but nothing special, the portion sizes for the steak and chips were also poor considering the price. Another disappointment was that when the waiter asked if the food was okay, I pointed out the steak and how we didn’t enjoy it, I had left basically the whole steak and pointed out the difference in how it was cooked which you could clearly see. The waiter had no interest in this and just took away our plates. When we asked for the bill, he came and asked if ‘everything was okay now’ which left us baffled, nothing had changed; we had not been given any new food or ordered any extra food. The waiter also seemed to laugh after asking this, which I could only presume is because he realised it was a stupid question. I felt as though we could have at least been offered a new steak, or an acknowledgment that the food was not cooked properly. Even with the 30 percent off, it ended up being around £56 for two steaks and four diet cokes, which is way overpriced. The hotel is nice but I would not recommend...

What is a chef with such talent, and a team of young, efficient, marvellously kind, and welcoming waiting staff, special thanks to Andrei (you deserve the next top award to be celebrated), Yahiya, and the seafood loving waitress from Malaga, doing being hidden away in the atmosphere lacking basement of a hotel in Whitechapel?! So much better than I had expected, and with such delicious food and service that we will definitely be going back to eat here despite the hotel lobby, breakfast room vibe. Everything my husband and I tried was delicious, and, better than that, created with both skill, care and high quality ingredients. The insalta di mare featured a generous portion of moist yielding and flavour packed pulpo, the caponata brought an authentic splash of Palermo to London, the olive oil and focaccia were ace, and my main of branzino still makes me grin with delight the day afterwards. Never has seabass seemed so luxurious. Moist, plump, yielding flesh resting on an oozing tomato, oil, & capers flavour packed bed of delight. I left the plate clean, bar the tail fins! Great wine recommendation from Andrei, the Carratto, served in my husband, Andy´s, and my favourite half carafe measure, being the perfect accompaniment to a top fish based meal: (Andy´s cod cheeks were top too). Anyway, I urge you to dine at Sotto Cucina & Bar, this small oddly placed restaurant deserves to be visited, the staff congratulated, and the excellent menu enjoyed to the full. Love...

The restaurant is inside the Hyatt Place hotel, and just right after the entrance, you'll see a sign to go down to the check-in area/restaurant. These two facilities are connected so it's a multiple-function area.

We got our table immediately. We didn't have to wait for long for our drinks and aperativo for us to share. And while we were busy having fun, food came and we decided to share the main course, so we could sample each dish. The food is delicious and yummy, my favorite was the crab linguine, which was heaven with a tang of spiciness.

The dessert came and the gelato was a proper gelato. Yuuum!!! then you had the pannacotta infused with rose taste. Perfect combination.

While I loved the food, and service decent, the only thing that I didn't like was that the restaurant is in the basement. I like having a view when I go to a resturant. Shame they dony have tiramisu...
