Went here for our anniversary meal and it was a massive disappointment. There standards have seriously dropped. When we first started going here it was amazing. Now it’s no better than your standard cheap sushi restaurant.
The food looks appetising on the menu on large beautiful platters. But comes out in bits and pieces on rather standard plates. We had the miso soup which was totally standard. And the perfect day platter which was not perfect at all - although there was nothing wrong with the sushi it was not what I expected for £50 per person, some of the pieces weren’t even cut straight! I could have had better in wasabi. And the hot food sticks were just disgusting, they weren’t hot they were just about warm and were obviously pre made and reheated making the meat bland and dry which is probably why they covered in the most disgusting sauces.
To top it off the service was awful. They took forever to come to take our order. Appeared to be constantly rushing around. They forgot apart of our meal, when we raised the issue with the waiter he looked annoyed (not at us but at the situation), but he didn’t apologise. They brought the missing items but still no apology. No body asked us how our meal was.
Considering we are in COVID times they’re are not doing anything to help with social distancing, there was no track and trace. The tables were too close together. The staff came too close when talking to you (probably because they had the music up too loud, and the music choice was awful).
Sadly to say this was one of our favourite special occasion places because it had the most amazing unique sushi flavours like no where you’d been before, this is no longer the case. It is not an over priced tourist trap. They are fobbing you off with cheap food riding on the back of their old reputation as this is not the food we once enjoyed here. We would have made a fuss and refuse to pay their prices but we did not want to ruin the day more than it had already been ruined. We won’t...

The sushi is of course delicious of course, even for people who don't eat fish, with a wide selection of vegetarian items on offer, all perfectly rolled and sliced. I opted for fish overload with the Churashi Deluxe, a winning combination of cooked and uncooked varieties of fish, crisp, deep fried prawns pieces, avocado and roe, perfect if you fancy a bit of everything without actually eating everything. The starters are also good - the truffle cauliflower is light and flavourful, while the chicken karaage is crisp and the perfect vehicle for one of the dips (I was very kindly given a delightful mayo free chilli and sesame dip that I could have eaten with everything). The drinks were refreshing (again, the drink I ordered was slightly tailored to my tastebuds, and quite lovely). And as for the sticks - crispy chicken wings, and pork were good, perfectly cooked, although relied on dips and sauces to maximise the flavour. However, the miso cod was marvellous on its own. And the creme brulee with sesame crumble to finish was both light and luxurious, packed with vanilla without being too sweet.
The added bonus of coming here is the chill ambience and, certainly in Greenwich, the outstanding service - I didn't catch his name but our waiter for most of the evening (glasses, shaved head, possibly Scandinavian accent) was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. 10/10.
If you're a frequent flyer here and it's not too busy, you may also find the staff willing to accommodate bespoke requests that aren't on the food and drinks menu, but you do need to know what...
Read moreThe food served was absolutely delicious, although I wasn't a particular fan of the kani korokke. They were a little mushy for my tastes, but this is personal preference.
The rest of the meal was extremely tasty, however, and the service was top notch with very attentive staff.
The only reason for the 4 stars is the 'optional and discretionary service charge" of 12.5% that was already added to my bill. If it's already on my bill, it's neither "optional" nor "discretionary". You make it extremely difficult and uncomfortable for people to ask to have it removed.
This is one of my biggest bug bears, as customers are the ones who should decide on whether they want to tip or not. Tipping in this country is not a custom. It is for exceptional service which goes above and beyond what is the usual standard. Please remove this, because if your staff are as good as they were during my visit, people will leave a tip.
Edit: Thank you for the response to my review. However, I still take umbrage with the service charge. It is not standard practice in the UK hospitality industry. The UK is not a tipping nation, unlike the US, where it is more customary.
Tipping, by it's very nature, is something that is done to acknowledge exceptional service. When you add it to a bill automatically, you make it extremely uncomfortable for the patron to ask for it to be removed. What you should do, and what is the right thing to do, is to have an option to tip. This is far more common in the UK hospitality industry. Stop adding it to the bill and let the...
