I was left feeling incredibly let down by the service on offer here unfortunately. I had been enjoying Greenwich and was desperate for the loo so, instead of just walking into the pub and using the loo as some people may do, I politely asked the nearest staff member if it would be okay to use the toilet. She was very bolshy in her response in saying it’s for customers only. I half expected this reply anyway and didn’t mind buying a drink, but was taken aback by her attitude when I had asked. My friends decided to all stay for drinks anyway and so we ordered some tea and coffee. The coffee was brought over to the table straight away but the tea (the drink I had ordered) mysteriously never made an appearance, despite paying for it. I may have just been thinking negatively, but the same lady who I asked about the toilet was the lady to serve us, and I felt that she was deliberately giving us glances and looks which were unpleasant and judgmental- my friends thought this too. I raised the tea-issue with the staff, asking if I could have the tea and they said we never paid for one. We calmly explained that we had paid for one and one was bought over to us, in what I can only imagine as their oldest, chipped tea-cup they had. We all felt very judged and uncomfortable sitting in the pub so asked if it was possible to sit outside- the attitude again in response was incredibly short and un-welcoming. I can’t say I’ve ever felt as judged and belittled in a venue as I did here and I’m well aware that the staff may be annoyed with people wanting to use the toilet, but I left wishing I had never asked at all, and had just walked in to use it. We will not...
Read moreMonday 14 July brought a visitor to my home town in which I have lived for 50 years, I have never visited the Admiral Hardy in Greenwich Market ,but nice location, established venue thought would give a try ,on entering the premises we were welcomed with subtle hostility ! Might be because it was two black women! but it was noted , we sat and ordered to start two pina -Colados! Well when it was served the milk was curdled through the top and kept on forming to a curd ,called manageress who took it away but did not seem overtly disappointed just abruptly asked if we would like another drink, she went away and we both decided not to take the offer and leave, Went Buffolo Bill ,great reception, decent food little bit pricey , tables and floors could be kept cleaner ,however an enjoyable afternoon for lunch
Returning back through Greenwich Market after our lunch ,spotted someone outside the Admiral Hardy who identified himself the head manager, explained our disgust at what we were served ,he said it had never ever happened before, dont know what went wrong and that it must have been the milk which they got from Marks and Spencers across the road really !
My experience its an establishment that does not really welcome people of colour, Microaggressive behaviour from we entered said we were not really welcomed and though he head manager offered us a drink again on the house or something else ,I would not take the risk drinking there again must less purchasing a meal service 0 drink...
Read moreCame in for an after party following a mess dinner in the Painted hall, as with every time I have come in there is a warm, friendly, even inviting atmosphere over and above that of the friends I was with, sadly I couldn't have an alcoholic drink as I had a 40 mile drive to my hotel that was booked by work for me.
The Hardy (as the locals know it) also has bedrooms available however due to the location their prices are in line with being a tourist hotspot and so not inexpensive.
Had I been a little more comfortable in what was happening for the rest of my weekend I'd happily have booked a room for Friday night!
Anyone staying here is surrounded by a wealth of history, so much so that they could spend a fortnight just exploring within a mile of the heart of Greenwich and still need to come back to see more, the transport links are excellent being about 10 minutes from the north/south circular road, on several bus routes, three minutes walk from the nearest underground line for trains into London as well as ten and fifteen minutes on foot from two national rail stations, on top of this the Thames clipper pier is about a 4 minute wander from the front door of the Hardy.
Despite now living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, I will be coming back as regularly as...
