The place looks really nice. Service was ok - 4 Star. Atmosphere is a 5 Star. It’s a great little friendly place, close to Brunswick Centre.
However the food was disappointing - at best 2-3 Star.
I came here with a colleague to try the lunch time meal offered. And sadly it wasn’t great. You get a choice of starter, rice or naan and a curry dish (veg, chicken or lamb)
The Samosas starter tasted like one of those packet types you can buy online. Crispy yes, a little oily but tasteless. The lamb and chicken curry’s lacked seasoning and that bite, no spice as though the same paste is used for chicken or lamb. That’s NOT how authentic home made Pakistani or Bengali food is prepared. The rice was ok, plain boiled and again no herbs or aroma. Basically the food was awful - apart from the Naan Bread.
The owners are incredibly lucky to have this gem of a place. The perfect spot! But really they must do better than serve this pile of rubbish.
It’s as though this place is catering for Non South Asians. We know how curry’s are prepared and cooked. And that food was a let down. I am sorry if my feedback is harsh, but it’s the truth and sadly a lot of restaurants are becoming like this. I hope you can make the changes because this place has the perfect location...
Read moreWe were looking for a good restaurant near the British Library and decided to try The Bumble Bees based on its online reviews. We had a wonderful lunch in a charming restaurant. We were there a bit later in the afternoon so we had time to chat with the owner about the food and the restaurant.
The food was delicious and very plentiful - much more than we could eat. Unfortunately we couldn't take the leftovers with us as we were staying in a hotel. We had so much food at lunch that we skipped dinner that evening. I had the chicken korma and my husband had the chicken vindaloo. The owner explained that British Indian food is sweeter than traditional Indian food so you can order either way. My chicken korma was made with some coconut which added a lovely flavor to the meal. The menu is extensive so there is truly something for everyone there.
The service was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We really enjoyed talking to the owner about how the restaurant came to be and how it got its name.
I highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely eat there on our next...
Read moreStumbled on to this place during our afternoon stroll around the area and decided to go back for dinner. We're glad we did. Every dish was delicious. For starters, we ordered papadums which came with a variety of toppings including lemon pickle and chutney, For mains we ordered chicken phall - finally, a curry that meets my level of spice (very very spicey), chicken Hyderabadi (a delicious non-spicey option), and a double cheeseburger and fries for the kiddo. Drink-wise, we had a strawberry shake for the kiddo, I had a King Fisher beer, and the Mrs. was offered a complimentary chai tea. Service was excellent - all the servers were very attentive and polite.
As is common in England, smoking is permitted with their outdoor seating which prompted us to move inside as we do not enjoy second hand smoke with our meals. The servers were very accommodating with our request to move and promptly helped us move out appetizers, drinks and plates to the new table.
Definitely a must try if you're looking for a great authentic Indian restaurant with...
