We had a very disappointing experience at this pub. Which is a real shame as it got such a good location.... but I think that's the only thing which keeps it going! The selection of wine is poor considering it is in such a foodie/drinks area. I ordered a wine, and the glass was dirty with the previous person's lipstick and food on it. Gross... I returned to the bar where the server took a new glass and proceeded to pore either water or soda from the postmix dispense gun over the glass....alarm bell 1! They wiped the rim of the glass with some blue roll and poured a new glass of wine. This glass was Unfortunately worse than the first... I went back to my table where the sun gleamed through the window and my new 'polished' glass revealing every bit of food partials on the glass. Honestly, it was comical and grimm at the same time. Ignoring the warning signs, my partner and I ordered food. Which we were told would be a minimum 30-minute wait.. The food arrived later, and it was honestly so disappointing... two roast potatoes, half a small carrot and half a small parsnip... but the meat was awful... the pork was jelly.... top crackling was soggy, and the beef was inedible and couldn't be cut with a knife. I went to the bar to ask to speak to a manager, and the staff were perched at the end of the bar on a laptop and the other eating their lunch. I asked if I could speak to the manager, and she replied ' why is it the toilets? ' Honestly, I almost laughed as it wasn't the toilets, but obviously, the toilets are also an issue... oh lordy...I have been here before and used the facilities that are in need of some TLC, to say the least... but no, I replied its not the toilets... anyway, we asked for a refund, left the drinks and food, and headed to the Virgin Queen down the road!
This venue needs some serious operational input or at least a manager with their EYE on the business! Will be spending my hard earned...
Read moreSo disappointed. I called the pub beforehand to ask if they had tables available for food, they said that they did. We got to the pub, ordered drinks and at 4.02 asked to order food. We were told that the kitchen was closed between 4-5pm. I expressed my disappointment because we had called about 20 minutes before and were not informed about the kitchen closure. The man working behind the bar then told us that we could go out and get food from "anywhere" and bring it back to the pub to eat with our drinks. We then went and got a pizza and brought it in and were immediately approached by the manager who said, in a very condescending tone, that we had been "misinformed" and could not eat the pizza in the pub. He did not apologise that his own staff member had told us the wrong information and continued to talk to us like we were completely stupid for thinking we could eat food from another place in the pub, which we know is completely unusual but as we were told that we could do it by someone who worked there, we thought it would be okay. We had to down our drinks so that we could leave and walk back home in time for our pizza not to be freezing cold. The Staff member who told us that we could bring the food in didn't even acknowledge us afterwards, let alone apologise for the wrong information. And the manager only gave us a back-handed apology once we told him how upset we were, but still spoke to us like we were idiots. On a side note: the cocktail we bought was literally undrinkable but after the whole pizza commotion we just wanted to leave so didn't complain. Awful customer service and...
Read moreWhat's not to like here? Sadly most of it. Getting the attention of the bar staff wasn't easy - even when the pub wasn't very busy - but still they struggled to serve people in the order they had been waiting. Got charged £25 for three and a half fairly ordinary pints then received a lecture on London beer prices when I asked them if they though the bill was correct. It wasn't - we had been over-charged but I had to point that even after they looked at the receipt. This kind of thing has come up in several other reviews. Anyone can mistakes but they were chippy on top - insisting on calling me "madam" repeatedly when I had told them I didn't like it. It's a pub not a shoe shop. I tried to make a joke out of it and was told "I am doing it out of respect, madam" - with very little respect indeed. They had poor knowledge of what they had on draught. I asked if they could tell me if any of their beers had fresh hoppy flavour with an ABV that wasn't too high. They couldn't Some of this may be down to poor English skills and inexperience - but a little bit of competence and charm would go a long way here. Maybe staff are minimum wage, zero hour contact slaves - but don't take it out on your paying customers. This was a miserable experience so we decamped to the Dove a few doors down the road where we got a cheery welcome and excellent service. It's a shame about the Cat and Mutton as it's a fine old building. Many other reviews rate the Sunday roasts highly - but not the service. There was a pub quiz upstairs being run by a lovely and welcoming bloke - but maybe he can move it...
