🚇 South Wimbledon 🍺 £6.90 Brixton Pale Ale
This pub is situated in South Wimbledon, Southwest London. The nearest Tube is South Wimbledon on the Northern Line.
This pub was originally a Victorian pub called The Horse & Groom built in 1867. It was rebuilt in the 1950’s and was previously owned by Whitbread. In 2013 the pub was refurbished and renamed The Garden Shed.
This is a large, bright, and airy one-bar pub that combines a traditional feel with contemporary touches. The centrally located servery is clad in green metro tiles, with the bar area wrapping around it. Poser tables are situated at the front, while cosy seating areas can be found on either side. At the back right of the pub, there is a conservatory with mixed seating. To the rear and side, a patio beer garden features colourful huts and a table tennis table.
The beer selection is entirely keg, offering a mix of familiar favourites alongside some craft options. I opted for a Brixton Pale Ale — my pint was excellent, though the price point was a little on the high side. The food menu features a solid range of burgers, pizzas, and a few pub classics.
We arrived at 3 p.m. on a sunny Saturday afternoon in June. The main bar was fairly busy, with a private function taking place in the conservatory and a mixed crowd filling the packed beer garden. The atmosphere throughout the pub was upbeat, with a welcoming local feel and a superb soundtrack playing in the background. Service was excellent — the team on duty were warm and friendly. We grabbed stools at one of the poser tables and settled in to enjoy our pints.
We visited some top-notch pubs on our crawl around Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon, but The Garden Shed was by far the busiest. What stood out most was the good mix of young and old punters — a great sign of a true community pub. We left with smiles on our faces; visiting here was a fantastic all-round experience.

Read moreWe are four young lads who have just moved into the area and couldn't be more happy with our local. First Friday since opening after the winter lockdown and the pub was rammed but good space between the tables. I honestly couldn't fault anything about the place. The service was 10/10, despite being at capacity they had enough staff on to make sure the pints came quickly. The welcome inside was incredibly warm and friendly. All staff looked like they were having a great time while working. If there was anything wrong with an order they replaced beers immedietly. The selection was great with good IPA's but cheap and cheerful lager too. The food was good too- 8/10. I had a burger so can't speak for the pizzas and mains. Great evening and looking forward to many more. I just think they did a great job for a very very busy first weekend out of lockdown, the service was bang on. See you very soon Garden shed.
P.S oh and the website is the best pub ordering layout I have seen since the beginning of covid. Incredibly easy to navigate, very speedy checkout process. best feature is when you opemn the website a second time it prompts your last round for a very easy order with one tap. Whoever designed that...
Read moreHorrible experience. Last time I went it was friendly and pleasant. On Saturday it wasn't. I bought a pint of Neck Oil - first time I have ever had bad Neck Oil, sour and unpleasant. I have never had bad Neck Oil before so they must work at making it bad. Music was so loud it was impossible to talk with bar staff. Asked if I wanted something different, but I didn't so they just walked off. When I suggested money back I just got an unpleasant stare from barman. So we went somewhere nicer. Interestingly walking back past at a couple of hours later a fight burst out and across the road with a dozen angry young men being loud and aggressive, chasing one man across the road to take refuge behind the Sainsbury's Security staff. No-one looked surprised, so I guess that is the kind of clientele they are looking for, so I shall not return In fact it has made me a bit wary of going to Sainsbury's on a Saturday evening.
All the trouble could be down to customers and the noise and youth of the clientele down to it being Saturday night when old guys like me should stay in. But not looking after the beer and serving expensive stuff badly is a lot less forgivable...
