On March 28, 2025, I visited the Harrods Georgian Room for Afternoon Tea with my mother and two daughters, eagerly looking forward to what should have been a special experience before our departure the following day. I had pre-ordered all of our items, including two glasses of champagne, in advance, and we were excited to indulge in what we assumed would be a memorable and luxurious experience. Unfortunately, what began as an enjoyable start quickly descended into a series of disappointments that left us thoroughly dissatisfied and frustrated.
The initial service seemed promising as we were greeted and seated promptly, and our teas and finger sandwiches were brought to the table without delay. However, things began to unravel almost immediately after the first course.
Despite being seated for a considerable amount of time, we were never offered water, a basic expectation at any dining experience. Our waiter, who was initially present, seemed to vanish entirely for long stretches of time, leaving us without any means of asking for the essentials. We did not feel that we were being cared for in any way. For well over an hour, our table was completely unattended. We found ourselves frantically trying to get someone’s attention—only to be ignored or met with hurried responses.
As time passed, we were unsure what the process was for the next course, as we had received no further instructions or guidance. After what felt like an eternity, we were finally able to flag someone down and ask for water. At that point, I had already asked for champagne twice, yet it had still not been delivered. It wasn’t until we asked another staff member that we finally received our long-awaited drinks.
The lack of service didn’t stop there. We had to request everything—from a simple tea refill to the champagne we had initially ordered. It became painfully clear that the waitstaff were overwhelmed and stressed, but this was no excuse for the blatant neglect we experienced. The service was utterly disjointed and lacking the refinement that Harrods is known for.
To add insult to injury, the behavior of our waiter when he finally did reappear was completely unprofessional. After we were left alone for so long, we were finally able to flag him down to ask for the check. He handed it to us without a word, barely acknowledging us, and left just as quickly. There was no apology for the long wait, no attempt to address our concerns—just a hurried transaction that further cemented how indifferent the service had been. It was shocking to experience such coldness from someone at a venue that prides itself on luxury and customer service.
Having enjoyed afternoon teas at several other establishments during our stay in London, I can confidently say that this was by far the worst experience. What should have been a memorable, relaxing occasion was marred by neglect, disorganization, and unprofessionalism. We were left feeling more like an inconvenience than valued guests.
This experience will certainly be one I’ll never forget—though unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. I sincerely hope Harrods takes this feedback to heart and reassesses their service standards at the Georgian Room, as no one should have to endure such a disappointing and frustrating experience in a setting that should have been a highlight...
Read moreTo whom this reaches at The Georgian,
First I just want to say that going to the Georgian for tea has been a life dream of mine. I grew up appreciating English culture and the elegance, beauty and magic associated with afternoon tea. Harrods prides itself on its luxury, attention to detail and customer service. I regret to inform you that our experience at The Georgian was subpar at best. Upon arrival the host at the front was incredibly cold and rude. Which was surprising because my correspondence leading up to the occasion was filled with joy and warmth, not to mention an incredible attention to guests restrictions and needs. When checking in for our afternoon tea, the host hounded us with intrusive questions about the extent of the allergy in question. We have no issues discussing the restrictions however the tone at which the questions were presented to us, followed by “well will she die If she eats it” was offensive. If someone expresses that they can not eat a particular food prior to arrival and again at arrival of check in, I’m not sure why the severity needs to be in question when it comes to guest experience at Harrods. When sitting for the afternoon tea our service experience was not to the standard we would have expected. Our server started strong but as the meal carried on we found ourselves constantly looking for him to either ask for more water, order more tea or support us in anyway through the experience. It was incredibly frustrating to see him being attentive to the surrounding tables while not providing us with the service we equally deserved. By the end of the meal we just grew more and more aggravated. The server came up to us saying, “I apologize for the delay in service”. What service? We were just practically begging for attention to which we only received in our last moments of the experience, not by him I may add. When he came to ask if we needed anything at the end of our meal, he walked away before we even fully responded. At that point it became obvious to managers that were frustrated and it felt as though word traveled fast. Servers were whispering, pointing and passing uncomfortable glances in our direction. Even after our frustration was clear to the staff we were still served a bill with an optional service fee. We kindly explained to another staff member our experience during the meal and that we need that removed. Other than “I am sorry” nothing was really done. Also when we had asked for help locating the bathroom during the meal the front desk staff was very rude. They treated our questions and confusion as if it were a burden to answer. Lastly, I would also like to say if someone does have a food allergy the solution to that should not be to just put duplicates on the plate to solve the problem. Regardless of the restriction the standard should be higher than what was presented to us. All in all if anyone were to ask if I’d recommend The Georgian I would not, unless they are prepared to be...
Read moreSo fancy and SO good! We had their classic afternoon tea and it was great! The sandwiches and desserts were so good!!!! The desserts looked to good to eat! The desserts had edible gold and silver on them and they gave us an appetizer each with caviar! The tea was good but I wish they gave us another pot each and I wish they gave us more creamer. The only thing of food I didn’t like was the egg salad sandwich, it was yucky. Here is what they gave us: A amuse-bouche (served first before the tower. It was a yummy savory soup type food that was a little spicy; 7/10) English cucumber sandwich (served with the tower. It was a yummy refreshing sandwich; 10/10) Faroe island poached salmon sandwich (served with the tower (swt). It was an ok sandwich. It felt more like a savory cross between a cream puff and a croissant; 6/10) Coronation style egg brioche roll (swt. Not very good. I don’t like egg salad very much. It wasn’t for me; 2/10) Chicken and tarragon mayo sandwich (swt. This was very yummy. It wasn’t too too much and the mayo wasn’t overpowering; 10/10) Warm parmesan madeleine (not served with the tower. This was the thing with caviar. It had chives, sour cream and caviar on top. The madeleine was good, but the sour cream was too overpowering; 8.5/10) -Deserts- Rhubarb tart (swt. This was very yummy! It had edible silver on top. It was a little tart and the crust was soft, but the frosting was good; 9/10) Pistachio choux (swt. This was awesome! The outside was a hard baked shell but the inside was a cake! The pistachio stuff on top wasn’t sweet though, probably so the dessert wasn’t too sweet; 10/10) Tropical sphere (swt. This was a passion fruit mousse with a mango compote, a coconut sponge inside and it sat on top of a crunch sable. It was yummy and tangy but it didn’t need the coconut sponge; 9.5/10) Caramel and chocolate delice (swt. This was a very rich cake! It was chocolate sponge, chocolate ganache, caramel mousse, and caramelized white chocolate chantilly. It was very good but also very rich and decadent. I probably could not eat 2 of these; 9/10) -Tea- Scones (served after the tower. The scones were raisin scones and plain scones with jam and clotted cream. It was good and sweet but I wish they gave them to us earlier, I had already ran out of most of my tea; 7.5/10) I had an earl gray tea (served before anything. It’s tea… So of course it’s good; 10/10) It was a really fun, fancy and yummy experience 10/10...
