We visited here on Saturday about 5:30pm for a quiet pre show meal. I had booked a table but because our train was cancelled, and our journey made more complicated we were about 20 mins late. On arrival, we were very surprised to see the place was heaving with people, mostly under 25 year olds, and many of the women were dressed up like they were ready for clubbing. I was thinking surely all these young people can't be here to see Come Alive? The bar was crowded and all the tables were taken. When I told the staff I had booked but was late because of trains, he made the point I could have rang in, which I didn't but then he went off to the table area to check if someone was leaving, and fortunately they were so we got our table without any fuss. Phew! the table seating area is quite narrow and as the bar was crowded, my husband who was sitting that side of our table kept having people knock into the back of him when they passed, which was quite uncomfortable and very annoying. The noise level was very high and we could barely talk to each other. This is not the fault of the pub or their staff, it was just very unexpected for us. Therefore I only gave 3 stars for the atmosphere because we are over 50 and just wanted some good food and a chat. If I was a youngster I would probably have loved it! Anyway the food was excellent! I had the fish and chips and I can honestly say its the best I have ever had. The batter was so crispy and tasty, the chunky chips were fluffy inside, and the mushy peas were nice too. My husband had the sausage and mash and he said that was good too. Anyway before we left, I visited the Ladies toilet and I took the opportunity to ask one of the glamorous young people, how come they were out so early, all dressed up and why were there so many of them in this particular pub ..... she said they were all there trying to get into the pub across the road, called The Prince, but they don't let them in until after 7p.m! So I am just putting this here - cos if you want a quiet meal on a Saturday early evening, then the Lillie Langtry probably isn't the place! Other than that, the food was great and its...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting The Lillie Langtry, and I must say it was a truly enjoyable experience. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly made me feel at ease. The overall ambiance of the place was cozy, with soft lighting and comfortable seating arrangements that encouraged relaxation and conversation.
One aspect that truly stood out during my visit was the exceptional service provided by the staff, especially Sam. Sam went above and beyond to ensure that every customer felt attended to and satisfied. Their friendly and approachable demeanor made them an absolute delight to interact with. Whether it was recommending the perfect drink from their extensive selection or taking the time to chat and make sure everyone had a great time, Sam's dedication to customer satisfaction was truly commendable.
In addition to the outstanding service, the pub boasted an impressive drink menu that catered to all tastes. Whether you're a fan of all kinds of beer, bold and unique cocktails, or fine wines, you're bound to find something to suit your palate. The quality of the drinks was excellent, and the bartenders demonstrated great skill and knowledge in their craft.
Another notable feature of The Lillir was its mouthwatering food options. The menu offered a variety of pub classics as well as some unique and delicious twists on traditional dishes. The attention to detail and the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients was evident in every bite, leaving me wanting to come back for more.
Overall, my experience at The Lillie was truly memorable, largely thanks to the exceptional service provided by Sam and the rest of the staff. Their commitment to creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment was evident throughout, making it a place I will definitely be returning to. If you're looking for a pub that offers great drinks, delicious food, and outstanding service, I highly recommend...
Read moreUpdated Review! Second time here after a so so experience a few weeks ago. Couldnât have been more pleased. Both of us had the sea bream, which was beautifully cooked and presented. We are not of the school where white wine goes with fish, so my companion had a glass or two of a very smooth, robust Malbec. We finished with desert and companion had a glass of delicious Hungarian Tokaj. Service was attentive without being intrusive, both waiters really helpful and friendly. Looking forward to going back and enjoying the terrace when it gets warmer.
Went for Mothers Day roast lunch.
When we arrived restaurant was not particularly busy, so there should be no excuses. First of all they couldnât find our booking and kept asking if we were sure we had booked! We were not the only ones who had their bookings questioned. Waitress apologised for keeping us waiting when she came to take our order, which was a nice touch. Soft drinks were plonked on table with the screw tops on and not poured into our glasses, this was by a young male server. Portion size of meat was large but absolutely zero flavour, a Birds Eye Roast Dinner would of had the same taste. Lots of vegetables, red cabbage piping hot, Brocolli undercooked and cold! Roast potatoes not particularly hot and very hard on outside. Yorkshire pudding cold. We ordered a side of cauliflower cheese, which had thin watery cheese sauce. It was not particularly cheesy, or hot, hadnât been flashed under the grill for a nice finish. We told the restaurant we did not drink alcohol and on requesting the bill I was presented with two chocolates, which was the best part of the meal and a Motherâs Day gift of a box containing a miniature bottle of Gin and a can of Schweppes Tonic, obviously from a promotion and totally inappropriate for...
