After visiting this cafe a few times with good experiences, I brought my mum for breakfast on her visit to London. Unfortunately service and food were really poor.
We ordered two veggie baps, after 20 minutes of waiting I asked if they would be coming soon (the cafe was completely empty at this point). The server said the baps are coming and an expression that implied I was being impatient (even though they were at the counter when ordered). After a further 5 minutes, my mum asked the server again as they stepped outside. They explained that a confusion was made and they had no veggie baps (even though they were on display when ordered). Stating they were bacon, even though I definitely saw they were Halloumi and probably sold during take away by accident.
There was no proper communication throughout, and when the baps finally arrived they were squashed, made with little care, and had no flavour (salt). The avocado was hot which made it taste less appealing. Our coffees were cold by the time the food arrived 30 minutes later.
This was a case of everything going wrong on one order, but what was really frustrating was the lack of communication by the staff and a complete disinterest in the circumstance. I have worked as a server for 10 years and know what these situations can be like especially if it’s not your dream job. But a little care goes a long way. We left our food as nothing else was offered. We really wanted our money back as we had to eat somewhere else...
Read moreWeird experience The food was alright, nothing amazing but not bad either, but I believe if you’re at a normal cafe (not fast food chains) and not at the counter or communal table, you should not feel forced by the waiter to have a complete stranger sat at your table (a tiny table that hardly had space for one person’s plate and drink). Obviously if sat at the counter or a communal table it’s clear that it’s a sharing set up, but I sat at a normal table just to then have the waiter come up to me saying he was going to sit a total stranger at my table with me. To be honest it made me very uncomfortable. The waiter was also extremely pushy, after he told me that and I, quite shocked, said I would rather not, he then kept going and almost argued with me saying that they do it all the time, bla, bla, bla. Definitely not a relaxing experience. By the way, I’m not a middle aged annoying and constantly complaining Karen type, I’m 28 and totally get and appreciate the friendly/social/neighbourhood cafe vibes, but you should not make customers uncomfortable by expecting them to share non-communal tables with strangers. Or alternatively if this what you like for your cafe then perhaps put a sign on the door “you must be fine sharing your table with a stranger (and we will argue with you if you’re not)” so that people who are not looking for this odd experience at least know in advance and have the choice to...
Read moreUpdated 2: well, it’s up to google not me to put the review on top. I updated it when I saw your reply - sadly just recently. Whoever replied to me lied about offering to wait for a coffee. As I already said - this did not happen. I was refused any type of filter coffee despite I was happy to wait as long as it would take. I want to bring clarity to this situation - if the business operates and promotes itself as specialty coffee place - I expect it to serve that exactly type of coffee at 13:40. I gave you free feedback and an idea where you can improve - it now seems that you took it into consideration. what’s the point of arguing with me? Beyond my understanding tbh
Specialty coffee place that doesn’t serve filter or at least V60 at 13:40 - it’s a shame. Is it really that difficult to buy a second grinder, guys? I believe this place should be more client oriented Updated: I read your reply - that option was not offered despite I asked. I was just refused in filter...
