🚇 Chalk Farm 🍺 £7.00 Asahi
The Lord Southampton is located in a quiet residential street on the border between Belsize Park and Kentish Town.
This pub was established in 1752, the building you see today was built mid 19th century. It was great to hear that the pub reopened last week after a period of closure.
This is a traditionally decorated one bar pub that has had a sympathetic makeover that enhances the original fixtures and fittings. The servery is centrally located with the bar area forming a “U” shape around it. There is plenty of seating throughout with wooden benches around the perimeter and church style chairs around solid tables. Everywhere you look there are interesting features and details like the archways, beautiful wall paneling, beer ledges and fireplace.
The beer selection was great, there is a choice of premium beers, London breweries and two cask ales. I decided on a pint of Asahi, my pint was clean and crisp, price point was less than Fullers charge. There is no food being served just yet, the kitchen needs a little bit of work and will be up and running soon.
This was my 900th London pub visit, so it was great to visit a pub that has come back to life. I arrived just after 4pm for an afterwork pint to check out the new look pub. There was another punter in attendance who popped in for a swift Guinness and a reporter for The Ham & High. The pub started filling up when a group of local ladies paid a visit. I had a brief chat with the new Landlord and Landlady who were friendly and personable. I couldn’t help but congratulate them on the amazing job they have done bringing the pub back to life.
It was great to see this local boozer reopening its doors again, some local residents have tried to keep the doors shut. The refurb is stunning and creates a cosy pub atmosphere with a distinct interwar feel to the place. The beer line up offers a nice cross section of options that will please most. The welcome is warm, so it was easy to settle in.
@lordsouthamptonpub opens at 4pm during the week and 12pm weekends.
A new pub for your must visit list.

It's a gorgeous building with some interesting original features, but all you can see here is a completely wasted opportunity.
We arrived on a hot Sunday afternoon when every other pub in the area was completely booked out for the rest of the day. There were no customers for our entire visit.
The interior is definitely tired. At some point in the last few years they pulled up the carpet and replaced it with very cheap laminate flooring which aged very badly, very quickly.
Some of the original 70s vinyl bench seating had been covered over with bits of cloth to hide the rips and tears. Sloppy and amateurish. They hadn't even bothered to put chairs and tables outside even though the temperatures were reaching the high 20s (and ironically there were some garden benches being used as indoor furniture?!).
There was nothing to protect the original wood panelling around the dart board from getting a beating by drunk dart players. The lettering outside the pub are stickers and are peeling off.
The girl behind the bar was very friendly (and had a good taste in music) but was clearly untrained on almost any part of bar work. They obviously don't take due care and attention when changing barrels, and the lines could have definitely done with a clean - even for the cider. My lager was borderline undrinkable.
As can be seen with the Gypsy Queen round the corner, a good renovation, decent beer and decent food will bring people back here.
My understanding is there is a hostel above are the majority of the clientele are either older locals or backpackers, the latter of which aren't coming to the UK at the moment and the former seem to have abandoned it.
In its current state I feel like I'm writing an obituary rather than a pub review; the only hope is that someone with a bit of vision takes his place over and brings it back to some kind of former glory. Hell, give me a month and 15 grand and I...
Read morePopped in for a quick pint after a long hard week at work. Second pint in was feeling in such a lovely relaxed mood.. Stayed on the rest of the night! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and friendly.
We highly recommend the burger, easily one of the best we’ve had in London. The flavors were spot on, and you can tell everything is freshly prepared.
The beer selection is another highlight, a great variety! You can tell there's real thought behind what’s on offer, not just the usual generic taps.
The pub itself has been beautifully renovated. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it an ideal spot whether you're out for a casual pint, date night, or a meal with friends.
Prices are also reasonable, especially for London, great value for what you’re getting. It’s dog friendly too which we loved. Thank you Amy! We’ll definitely be back! Sarah,...
