If you’re looking for an unforgettable culinary journey through the flavours of India, Vijay India Restaurant is a must-visit. From the moment you step inside, the authentic ambiance transports you straight to the heart of India. The decor is thoughtfully curated, with traditional Indian elements that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service is exceptional—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, offering helpful recommendations and ensuring a seamless dining experience. Now, onto the highlight: the food. Every dish is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of India. The spices are perfectly balanced, the flavors vibrant, and the ingredients fresh. Whether it’s the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth chicken tikka masala, the fragrant biryani, or the perfectly crisp samosas, each bite is a celebration of authentic Indian cuisine. Special mention must go to their naan, which is soft and pillowy, and their desserts, especially the gulab jamun, which is the perfect sweet ending to a meal. The mango lassi deserves a special mention. This creamy, refreshing drink strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and tanginess, making it the ultimate complement to the meal. The prawns puri is another standout—succulent prawns cooked in a spiced, flavorful sauce, served with soft, fluffy puris that soak up every bit of the delicious gravy. And for dessert, the carrot halwa is simply divine. Warm, rich, and perfectly sweetened, it’s a comforting and indulgent treat that rounds off the meal beautifully. Vijay India Restaurant is a gem that excels in ambiance, service, and flavor. Whether you’re a seasoned lover of Indian food or trying it for the first time, this place will leave you craving more. Highly recommended!

Being from Kerala myself, we were keen on getting good authentic malayalee food. Vijay India restaurant went way beyond our expectations. Firstly like to appreciate the hard work, warm and welcoming hospitality received from the amazing staff. Inspite being on a weekday night, the restaurant was full. We noticed regular customers who told us they come here very often and love the Indian food which definitely says the quality of food received. The owner was extra helpful and takes effort to communicate with all the guests and is open to feedback which definitely shows in their steady progress and to maintain consistency of the good quality food for all these years. Coming to the food , mallu in me was craving for hot parotta and beef. Beef is not there on the menu, but you can ask for it. Starters we had tea-which reminded us of back home ,how we get tea from small shops in Kerala and we were suggested to get samosas as they are freshly made and not frozen. Samosas were indeed good-tasted fresh, good generous filling of chicken. We also tried prawns with puri- interesting combination and the prawns were bursting with flavours and well made (not rubbery). Mains we had hot crispy flaky parotta, freshly made with beef which was semidry and fish curry. They stuck with the original Kerala spicy level which made it even more special for us. My personal favourite was chilly chicken - it's semidry preparation, but complemented well with parotta. People who miss Indo-chinese food will definitely love this chicken preparation. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant for good authentic Kerala food and will definitely come again to try other dishes. The menu is very extensive and has plenty of vegetarian dishes as well. Walkable distance from the tube station.

Vijay India Restaurant in Kilburn, established in 1964, is proudly known as the UK’s first South Indian restaurant.

For nearly six decades, it has delighted generations with authentic Keralan and South Indian dishes, earning a loyal following among locals and celebrities alike.

From the legendary chef Vasu Nair—once recruited by George Harrison—to today’s dedicated team, Vijay has always stood for genuine flavours and warm service.

Whether dining in or ordering takeaway, the staff, led by the ever-gracious Ms. Vyshnavi, ensure every detail is handled with care, from explaining dishes with passion to honoring special requests.

With its reputation for “plain good cooking” and timeless recipes, Vijay continues to be a beloved landmark in London’s culinary history. We wish the management and staff continued success!©️ Ash - Cash (on Google) & Ash & Karen (on...
