I was served dairy when I had ordered vegan food.
I was lied to by a staff member who said my food was vegan and to add further insult to injury, the manager based the mistake on a breakdown of communication. She said I did not specify I wanted vegan food when I had requested a vegan menu. Clear as day I ordered off the vegan menu which she handed to me in front of her.
Here's the story:
The manager dealt with my order specially due to my allergy to avocado. I ordered a vegan menu and all was good.
My food came and I bit into it... I knew it wasn't vegan.
I asked the waitress if my food was vegan or not and she was adamant the food I had was vegan. I was not convinced and called her over again. I told her I refused to believe the food I had was vegan. With attitude she reluctantly took my food away.
The waitress came back with news that my food was not vegan. Sly informed me on my food. It gets better as the manager was making excuses under the sun on why I was served dairy.
Excuse 1: Communication issue
I refuse I was served the wrong food based on a communication issue as you served only me on the table, and I ordered only two street food items from a vegan menu. Based on that information, I find it odd how a manager is able to not perform their job competently.
Excuse 2: You should have specified you wanted vegan food
I asked the manager for a vegan menu. I mentioned to her that I am vegan and when ordering the food I was holding and looking at the vegan menu given to me. The manager had the audacity to tell me I had to clarify I wanted vegan food. What further explanation do you want? I ordered the menu, I mentioned I'm vegan and I ordered from the menu in front of them. The manager did not have other people on the table ordering at the same time. She was the only one taking my order.
The excuses she was coming up with sounded like they were out of Boris Johnson's handbook on fibbing.
From my experience I recommend any vegans to take your money elsewhere.
To not be given dairy as a vegan. Not fed false information by rude,...
Read moreI’m genuinely sad to have to rate this place so badly but alas here we are. My mom and I came here twice in the past week with vastly different experiences - the first was so positive that we took the next opportunity to return and the second was so negative that we never will again. The fish and chicken main dishes here are excellent - well balanced and thought out, but the actual tacos and burritos are pretty marginal - weirdly salty and sour but surprisingly watery and bland with poorly developed flavors, not like Mexican or even Texmex really at all. The big make or break moment for me in any restaurant, however, is customer service. The first night our waitress was absolutely above and beyond excellent. Our whole experience was made better by her service. The second night, we received the incorrect order, waited for 10 min to try to grab the server again before just giving up and eating what was in front of us, only to wait another 20 min before we could finally shake the bill out of someone. Because of how long everything took, we were there over 2 hours and didn’t even get to eat the food we wanted. We left hungry and disappointed. On a busy night, this wait might not seem so bad, but the aggravating thing was watching our server pace back and forth, eyes down, through the restaurant through that entire time acknowledging not a single table, downward gaze, slackjawed. It was sad. Nothing in his hands, he walked back and forth aimlessly - he wasn’t “in the middle” of something - he seemed lost. It was obnoxious. Oh and of a nearly empty dining room, they sat a large group of drunk football bros right beside our otherwise quiet table my mother’s unending delight. Joy.
So here I am now saying I can’t really in good conscience recommend a place where the service and food quality are wildly unreliable, even if there are some stellar hits. If you’re feeling like taking a gamble with this place, the churros are really out of this world delicious, and at least one server really knows the menu and does an...
Read moreI was getting home late and had been craving tacos ALL day! I really wanted the pork ones at Wahaca but was worried it was getting late and either they wouldn't be open and/or would have stopped serving by the time I got there. After checking they were still open til 10pm, I got there 09:28pm, expecting the staff to be tired from a long day's work and annoyed at this taco fiend strolling in late as asking for tacos!
I could not have been more mistaken.
From the moment I arrived and asked the very nice lady behind the bar (sorry I didn't get your name) if they were still serving (read as: I am DESPERATE for pork tacos!!), I was greeted with some of the BEST service I have had to date and in a long time.
Everyone was so friendly and professional, chatty and accommodating without being overbearing, and made me feel welcome and at ease. Particular shout outs must go to Stephanie F who served me and was amazing and had great chat; her colleague Toby, who showed me to my table and was super nice and reassuring; and to the aforementioned lovely bar lady (apologies I didn't catch your name!)
To your manager: this 5 star rating is totally down to you 3!
I recently had surgery and haven't been able to socialise or go out as much as possible and am slowly dipping my toe back into doing so. So to come to Wahaca Shoreditch and have such as positive experience was a really boost and I thank you for that.
As someone who waited tables last year at a fab restaurant in Angel, I know how much work goes into making the experience. Keep up...
