I am a disabled 49-year-old civil servant with cerebral palsy and walk with the aid of a walker, which is like a small wheelchair that I push ahead of me. I was attending a training course in London and decided to try this Indian restaurant as it was close to my hotel. The restaurant was small but only about half full. I folded my walker up and asked a waiter for a table for one. He said yes and helped to carry the walker between the tables to the back. He parked it by the toilet door and said it was OK there. I checked and it wasn't blocking any access point like a fire door. He asked if I was able to sit on a chair. I said of course I could. After I had retrieved my glasses from the bag under my walker, the waiter said I couldn't use the toilet as it was downstairs. I replied that I didn't need the toilet and just wanted to eat. He offered me a takeaway I tried to explain that I was staying in a hotel and asked why I couldn't sit down. He said there wasn't enough room. "What do you mean? The restaurant is only half full," I said. "No room ... you can have a takeaway," he replied. I said again that I was staying in a hotel and reminded him that he had said I could have a table for one. "Do you want me to leave?" I asked. He said yes. I was annoyed and suggested it was illegal to refuse service on the grounds of disability, but by this time I was being ushered out by a rather large gentleman, who apologised to the other people in the restaurant. I turned on him and asked why he was apologising to these good people but didn't mind discriminating against a disabled person. He suggested they weren't. I have never experienced such discrimination in a restaurant anywhere in the world.
I've written to them but...
Read moreI hope other people do not feel pushed and get treated bad like this when they go to this restaurant. Luckily there are other good restaurants nearby! Surprisingly the owner was not happy to take any orders at 3.00 pm. The restaurant was empty and we just wanted a small dish and a naan since already had lunch. He had a bad face through out and complained at the end that he does not take under 15 £ order - i said ours was 14.90 £ and why you did not tell us before we sat or when we ordered. Why are you so rude - we would not have asked your cook to make food if you did not take small orders. It was a simple suggestion. If it was busy we would have understood but his face was full with arrogance inspite of the restaurant being empty. Only if he had told us before we would have ordered more or gone to some other restaurant. but he choose to be rude. The food was ok quality but the owner/manager was very arrogant saying he is 35 years in industry and blah blah. Not even once he apologised for his behaviour. I asked if you want me to tip you so that you will smile. I will rather had gone to a better indian place which is real indian food than this restaurant. I would not go here again. I always write good review but this was a bad experience. I still have not shared all that he said to us since felt he must be in some kind of stress but this behaviour was for no reason hence had to leave...
Read moreMy husband and I came here on a Friday evening having walked around Russell Square having lived in the area a couple of decades ago. There are no Indian restaurants in the locale anymore sadly, our favourites having long gone. So, it was a very pleasant surprised that we happened upon Woburn Tandoori, which is tucked away off the main road into Kings Cross and just off Jenner St/Russell Square in a quaint, charming, cobbled street courtyard setting. There are plenty of tourists that come here and it was busy when we were here. We ordered fish curry, sag paneer, lamb rogon, pilau rosh, naans and poppadoms and the food was delicious. The menu is broad and wide ranging with something for everyone, the service was very efficient, friendly and helpful, the restaurant feels quite intimate even though it is quite spacious internally but it feels quite cosy. What also struck us was just how reasonably priced our meal was - in fact, we had to double check our bill as it was extraordinarily good value which is highly unusual in Central London. The present owners have been there 10 years, and are warm, effusive and keen for customers to enjoy their meals. Please do go and support this little gem - you will be so pleased that you found an authentic, Indian restaurant with delicious food in a lovely setting at such incredibly...
