It was my first time going to the Wright Brothers, Battersea Branch and I really enjoyed my visit. Although, it is not my first time having oysters, I have never been to one of their restaurants before.
Dog friendly
My visit was solely for the £1 a pop oysters they do throughout the week from 3-6pm and I was really excited. We sat outside because the weather was nice but the interior from what I saw was really warm and inviting, with an open kitchen that I love to see.
The oysters themselves were really fresh and juicy, some on the smaller side but for £1 I wasn't really concerned about it. Salty with a real taste of the ocean, slurpilicious (it's really the only way to describe oysters to someone who's never had them before), not at all slimy and different to other popular seafoods like prawns, scallops when raw, different texture. The mignonette for me was the star of the show, sour, tanginess and sweet paired really well with the oysters and green tabasco. I would definitely recommend trying the mignonette with the green tabasco if you've always favoured the red one.
My criticisms are around the shucking of the oysters, I wish that they took more care. It would have been a much better experience if the oysters were fully shucked off the shell so that I wouldn't have to struggle to get it off with the tiny fork you are provided. There were some with small bits of broken shell, one shell was actually broken and found that I had grittiness in my mouth because it, you couldn't really see a lot of the shell from your eye view until you bit in. Also they could have cleaned the outer better, there were quite a few times that I would end up slurping the outer debris of the oyster.
Staff was disappointing especially at their price point, nothing outstanding could have done better with noticing social cues i.e. customer looking at them or sitting up showing that they needed attention. For example they could have asked if we’ve had oysters before and if we needed help, explaining what to do and how to eat, this critique applies to all oyster spots as well.
One small thing is that I paid £7 for a pre-bottled pressed juice that wasn't done in-house and there is no indication of this on their menu. Due to the price point of the menu in its entirety I had an expectation that they pressed the juices themselves. Little disappointing but still tasted decent, wouldn't order again.
Overall, I really would recommend this place, my critiques are easily addressed and it's situated in Battersea Power station and can imagine it has an even better vibe in the summer.
I will 100% be back! And will be trying other things off their menu as well as having the...
Read moreExtremely disappointed with this restaurant. We live in the same building where it's located, and went there for the first time around 3 years ago and we very disappointed overall. Since time passed, we thought to give it a go today, but made a huge mistake. The place is absolutely terrible. To start with, as many of the reviewers already noted, the waiters just so unhappy and unwelcoming! It's absolutely not acceptable for a very expensive restaurant where they charge £100pp on average for a 3 course meal. The waiters must have came out from some very shabby fast food chain, and should obviously go back there as soon as possible, before they make this place close down. No welcoming, extremely rude when taking orders, absolutely zero enthusiasm and they make you feel unwanted from the start. We were there as two adults and 3 children, including a newborn. Ordered starters, something for the child, and selection of mains. It was a long wait before starters finally arrived, but little we knew about how long would it take for the mains to come. 1,5 hours. Being a family with kids, we finished the starters in about 10 minutes and just sat for over an hour waiting for the main - it's not acceptable. Ended up walking away and eating at home - it was actually still quicker. Terrible management tried to add 12.5% service charge to our bill, even though we obviously left extremely unhappy since we haven't even started eating properly 1,5 hours later. Very, very bad level of service. Not a single apology that the food came so late. They could see that we had a lot of children, so it was important to speed things up a little. So called "manager" said that it was only 20 minutes waiting time, which was a complete lie (please check your cameras if you don't believe us). Shocking experience and will now definitely never come back even if all the places around will shut down and this will be the only one left. On a separate note - we tried to get a table there 3 times in the past year as a walk in, and after seeing at least around 15 empty tables, we were told that due to staff shortages they can't take more customers. How ridiculous is that, turning customers away? There are several places next door, and all of them are always busy with almost no empty tables, so I can only suggest to the management to look around and see how it's done elsewhere. You are pretending to be a very posh upmarket seafood restaurant, so get yourself staff who at least smiles and talks to guests, before getting your hands on a 12.5%...
Read moreFor context, we were a party if 4 adults, a 3 year old, and a newborn infant., and I was looking forward to our family brunch and booked the restaurant as we were craving oysters and had great ones at the wright brothers market stalls in borough market.
However the experience at the restaurant was lacklustre and frankly uite disappointing...
We ordered 3 coffees, and only 2 were served, until we had to request the restaurant to check on the missing coffee. The 2 lattes were not great, bubbly milk and weak espresso. The 3rd coffee was a soy flat white, which tasted horrible, as the soy milk was over steamed, bubbly and burnt. Having little faith in the barista by then, we sent it back and swapped for an americano instead.
We ordered the bacon and scallop brioche and eggs Florentine, both came with hollandaise sauce that was so acidic, they tasted like drinking thick vinegar. I asked the waiter to check w the chef if they had tasted it, so they can possibly make an amendment, but was told it will take too long to remake the sauce, so was offered to have avocado with my eggs instead of the sauce, and that they will remove it off the bill. I accepted it... However, I saw that people were still being served meals with this hossibke sauce on other tables. My mother was too polite to return her meal and simply scraped off all the hollandaise sauce off her bacon and scallop roll.
my husband ordered a the big breakfast, and was served promptly, however, towards the end of the meal, we noticed other tables had toast, and realised his never came.. the waiter corrected this by sending the toast, however, this was already after my husband had finished his meal.
When the bill arrived, the eggs Florentine was still on it, even thought we were told that it would be removed, so once again, we had to request an amendment.
We ordered 30 oysters, they weren't the best (thin admbd slimy), but oh well.. it's not something anyone can really do about it, but it is disappointing to go to a restaurant that's supposed to be famous for oysters, only to be disappointed by them.
Unfortunately, after so many errors, nobody at the restaurant bothered to sincerely apologise for the poor service and quality of food.
I'd recommend to only go to their market stall and skip the restaurant altogether due to poor service, su-quality cooked food, and don't even bother with the coffee (go to grind or even blank street coffee after your...
