Over priced, below average quality food, poor service.

Made a reservation for 7pm, turned up to the restaurant and the man said he didn't have my reservation in his book. Pretty sure he was the one I spoke to on the phone. Waited 15 minutes for a waiter to come and take our drink orders and another 10 for them to arrive.

Ordered the Bufala e’Nduja for starters, which was apparently meant to have salami on, but literally had the tiniest speck of salami smaller than my little fingernail! £4 for a piece of toasted sourdough and mozzarella, ridiculous.

Had the peperoni pizza for main which was terrible. Margherita sauce was completely bland and the topping was no better, sliding off the pizza at any chance it got.

After food we ordered some final drinks. Asked for a vodka and coke which the waiter couldn't understand for some reason so she had to ask her colleague to come over to help. Asked for another shot of vodka 5 mins later which in the end never arrived. I could see it on the bar waiting to be taken to my table but the staff just walked passed it. I even saw one waiter cleaning up trays and empty glasses right next to it but just ignored it. Told them I wasn't going to pay for it as we had to leave, then watched the waiter just throw it away. Would have been nice if they offered it for free for the mess up.

All in all terrible experience. Staff could barely speak english nor understand anything we asked for on the menu. Had to explain and point multiple times at the menu. It seemed like it was the first day on the job for all but one staff.

The restaurant was half full but had about 8 members of staff on duty, so couldn't understand why it took so long.

For the quality of food (and service), this has to be the most overpriced pizza in London. I would have rather stayed at home and ordered a Dominos than this rubbish.

Only redeeming part was the food came quick.

Will never be...

I wish we would had walked away after waiting at the door for about 5 mins w/out anyone coming to welcome us or even acknowledge us!. Right there I told my husband, let's leave, it doesn't give me a good vibe. He said, I do want a pizza and the design of the restaurant is cool, so ... let's give them a chance. Big mistake. The food was really really bad. How bad can you mess up a bruschetta? well, they can. Getting a one piece of bread with lots of vine tomatoes missing the basics of salt, oil or basil? I couldn't believe it! Their Suppli “al telefono” was dry and old, it was warm but the inside was cold and dry, not at all what we expected. Finally the pizza - which my husband had ordered well cooked, the manager who took the order said, 'no, i'm going to make it the way and if you don't like it, let me know'. I mean, in what restaurant do you tell your customer NO, i will cook how i know? Of course it was not cooked through at all, and we never saw the waiter/manager back again. Seriously, nobody came to check on us until I called a waitress to get the bill, that's when we told them of the bad food we were given and then they sent a chef to our table. The wine we ordered was not great, but I guess it wasn't their fault - except that it was on the expensive side when we know it is a cheap wine. We still had to pay the full amount for all the food, they didnt remove any item from the bill nor gave us a discount. Will never be back unfortunately. It is sad to give bad reviews, but I think they need to improve their service and...

Simply awful. If quality of food and service are important to you, don't be fooled by the very inviting candlelit cavern of Mother. The very attentive waitress helped us with the wine menu, we tasted a couple and chose the Barbera. After a 10 minute wait the barman arrives with the two glasses of wine and says that its the house wine as the Barbera was finished and that the price was the same so we should be ok with this. The wine was ok, so we decided to go with it.

For starters, the Burrata was like rubber, the baked cherry tomatoes overdone and tasteless. Our choice of pizza was was called 'Nick Says its good' - interesting topping of cauliflower, pecorino cheese, anchovies and olives. I found a couple of tiny pieces of grated cauliflower, poor quality of rubbery salty anchovies and 3 whole olives! the pizza dough in the centre was uncooked. We managed to eat a quarter of this awful mess.

The waiter arrived and cleared away our plates and did not ask or acknowledge that perhaps our meal didn't go so well. The waitress who had originally seen us in, arrived with the bill and asked at that point whether all was ok. We explained about the wine and then about our experience of the food. She apologised for our poor dining experience with genuine concern but made no offer to reduce any item of the bill. We requested for the service charge to be removed.

Not making another...

A popular Copenhagen pizza restaurant that uses simple fresh organic products has opened its first branch in Battersea Power Station last July. As part of Mother’s task, the sourdough Neapolitan pizzas are made with purified seawater as their base, and baked in a wood fired oven; a traditional practise from Mediterranean countries for lighter dough. My companion and I sat in a large impressive space and shared two pizzas. We ordered Nick Say’s It’s Good which contained mozzarella, cauliflower, olives, anchovies, capers, chilli, pecorino cheese and a Capriciosa which had tomato, mozzarella, ham, mushrooms, artichokes, olives and egg. The dough was fresh and of chewy consistency although too ‘healthy’ for my liking. The quality of the toppings were verging on mediocre and the yolk was not runny enough. The size of the pizzas were smaller than average. To top it off, there was a long wait until the pizzas arrived and the waiter initially brought us a Marinara instead of a Capriciosa. Pizzas range between £7-£16 and are not cheap. Although staff tried to be extremely helpful, it would seem they are still undergoing teething problems. Initially the atmosphere was fun but then later became rather gloomy in all their disorganisation. Sadly Mother’s mission is still far from being accomplished.

The area around Battersea Power Station is developing into a busy hub. We looked at a few different restaurants and settled for Mother. I thought the layout was spacious. A good selection of pizzas to pick from, ranging from £7.50 to £15.50. I liked that a jug of water is placed on the table without having to ask. Drink prices were on par with other restaurants. The place is cashless. Service charge is included in the bill, which I completely disagree with - it should be up to the customer. Also - maybe because they wanted people to realise it was open - the door was left ajar and it was pretty cold, I had to keep my coat on and the food got cold quite quickly. The receipt has been included, there was 4 of us dining.

Everybody loves their Mum, and Mother Restaurant at Battersea is great too. It's designer decor is inviting and invites you to enjoy the atmosphere. We relaxed and enjoyed our meal. I had the 2 cheese pizza, and she the marinated pan fried lamb chops. Delicious. Good size portions and fair priced. The restaurant is set in the arches of a railway bridge, is dark but warm and inviting lighting. The aroma of the wood fire oven adds to the homely feel. The staff were friendly, our server, Kent explained some of the history of the restaurant and made us feel right at home.
