We came in here just a little before they were about to close. After seeing the reviews from social media we decided to try it out. Upon entering the cafe we were met with a very impatient employee who didn’t want to seem to engage. We asked him what he would recommend and he simply shrugged and said “well we are sold out of everything so” my friend and I then tried to look around behind the counter he had a very apathetic attitude which was off putting. He then says “we have croissants” my friend asks “are the plain or do they have any filling” he retorts “they are plain”. I spotted some cakes behind him, the coconut lime one to be exact. I asked him about it and we decided to go with it. We bought two of those one croissant and a cookie (which again he didn’t tell us about we just had to spot ourselves)
The customer service wasn’t great in fact I felt like I was a burden instead of a paying customer. Interestingly enough another gentleman walked in after us (he was Caucasian) and the employee interacted with him in a much better way, even going so far as to offer him more product than he originally asked for (I assume this was because they were closing)
My friend and I are women of colour which begs the question what the employees true gripe with us was about but I suppose it’s all speculative, it’s just the experience we had
Anyway the cookie was okay I would think it’s better warmed. The croissant was okay - given that it’s a plain one nothing stood out. The lime and coconut cake was divine! We really enjoyed it deffo worth eating again - I saw as we were leaving the shop that a lemon drizzle one was available too which we didn’t try because he said everything was sold out and it didn’t catch our gaze from the store but I would like to...
Read moreMy friend and I visited this place today, and to be perfectly honest, we were rather taken aback by how tiny it was—tucked away in a corner with absolutely no seating available. Customers are expected to take everything to go and then stand around awkwardly, leaving their names while the staff bring out coffees.
I don’t mind queuing if the experience is worth it—but the layout doesn’t help. From outside, you can only see a limited selection of pastries through the small display, and there’s no large menu board to give you a clear overview. It’s only once you squeeze inside the narrow space that you realise there are more items to choose from, which of course means you’ll want to reassess your choices. Reasonable, right?
Unfortunately, the woman taking my order didn’t seem to agree. She was visibly impatient, snapped at me to hurry up, and gave me no time to properly look. When I moved on to order a coffee, things took a rather surreal turn—she suddenly acted as though she couldn’t understand my English at all. I repeated myself multiple times, only to be met with an exasperated “What?” while she scanned me up and down. Quite the service.
After paying, I had to step out to take an urgent phone call and asked my friend to collect the order for me. Apparently, even in my absence, the same staff member managed to throw one more disapproving look in my direction.
Reading other reviews mentioning poor service and different treatment based on how people look, I can’t say I’m surprised anymore. Perhaps next time, I’ll make sure to look a bit more “fitting” rather than being a woman in color before expecting to be treated with...
Read moreThis afternoon I went to get a coffee and a baguette from La Chouqette, however when I received my coffee from the “barista” the take out coffee cup felt cold and so I tasted the coffee before I left and it was cold not what you expect from a cappuccino which is known world wide as a “hot beverage”
I therefore went back inside and asked the so called “barista” if the coffee could be made hotter as it was literally cool and she then decided to add “hot water” which was even worse as the coffee then didn’t even taste like coffee anymore but a mixture of too much hot water, oat milk and a sprinkle of coffee. Vile.
I then had to go back inside and ask for the coffee to be re-made again! And even still it wasn’t hot I’ve had to come home in order to heat my coffee.
So so disappointing, and what made it worse was all three workers at the time couldn’t even smile I don’t think they’ve been trained to know that service with a smile is always appreciated. The most miserable staff I’ve ever come across!
I regretted it and wish I’d gotten my coffee from Starbucks. I will be deterring all my family and friends from purchasing their coffee from here...
