Worst experience of both myself and my mother’s life. I’m an international traveller and big foodie/ food vlogger. Let me explain why this was my worst ever experience dining out. I visited Sumac Rooms today with my mother and the way we were treated by the Manager Shams/ Abdullah was absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting. We entered the restaurant and were seated. As we are not Milton Keynes locals ( travelled 1 hour 30 mins to have a day out in MK) we had only just arrived and my mum really needed to use the toilet as she has a weak bladder. We asked where the toilets were and the waitress directed us to them. As we arrived near the toilets another waiter stopped us and asked us where we were going. I explained we were looking for the toilets. My mum is disabled and has recently had two operations on her foot over the last couple years and she can not take the stairs due to this. We saw there was a large flight of stairs to climb to get to the toilets so I suggested to my mum to use the toilets in McDonald’s next door as we couldn’t seem to see a lift or disabled toilet in the restaurant. We then left the restaurant to use the toilets next door and explained to the same waiter that we would be back. Minutes later we came back to our table and the manager who was at the bar ( Shams/ Abdullah) asked us what we were doing . I replied we were sitting at our table. He replied with ‘ well I’m not serving you as the other waiter said you only came here to use the toilets’. I explained that my mum is disabled and that she couldn’t climb the flight of stairs in the restaurant due to her operation and disabilities so we just nipped to McDonald’s next door to use the ground floor disabled toilet. He then replied with ‘ I don’t care I’m not serving you, I’m not changing my mind’ , so I replied to shams with ‘ you don’t care about my mums disabilities? This is discrimination and I’ll be reporting you to trading standards and the council for this as a e have travelled all this way for a meal at your restaurant , we have paid for parking and we are hungry and you are saying you won’t serve us due to my mums disabilities, I will be taking this further and writing a bad review and reporting you’ . He didn’t seem to care and screamed in front of the other customers ‘ I’m not serving you’ . I then replied ‘why would we return if we only wanted to use the toilets in your restaurant, we used the toilets in McDonald’s not here’. He didn’t care about my mums disabilities and he didn’t care about us as his customers. We were treated awfully, and I would not recommend anyone to come here to be treated like this. I normally dine out in London and have never ever been treated like this in over 30 years. He was so rude and hostile. There was another female waitress who was so nice to us and she started crying when my mum explained all her illnesses to her and that Sham had made up lies ( for a reason we will never know ) She gave us a hug and apologised on behalf of shams and explained there is a disabled toilet and as she was busy she said she didn’t realise we required it but explained to us later she wish she had shown it us so we wouldn’t have had such a bad experience. She was lovely and pleaded we take a seat. But we had been embarrassed so badly at this point and shams refused to apologise. So we left at this point due to him humiliating us in front of the other 4 customers sitting there. One of the customers followed us outside and agreed how he spoke to us was appalling. Shams / Abdullah needs to be removed from this restaurant as he is very verbally aggressive and discriminates against disabilities and instead of making assumptions to why we had gone next door to use the toilet he could of just asked us rather than accusing us of things we hadn’t done. So rude. The owner needs to acknowledge all of the bad reviews made against the aggressive hostile ‘shams’ as I have seen numerous complaints about him above when reading other complaints. Will not recommend this place on my Instagram account either. Word of mouth...
Read moreOrdered starters & main courses & the food was bought out very quickly. The food was good, but was nothing spectacular. The issue we had was with the waiter. The main courses were served before we had evan finished the starters & when putting the plate down to the table he had the plate so close to my 1 year old sons head I had to step in and pull it away from him. Thankfully, the plate was not hot, but this is still not good practice, infact It's one of the most basic things that someone serving food should be careful of. Also this is advertised as a turkish restaurant but the staff appear to be indian not turkish. I could barely understand a word he was saying.
When going to the toilet, I found an issue with the baby changing facilities, the pull town table would not stay up and when I pushed it up it fell down again nearly hitting my son. If they cannot pay attention to heath and safety issues that are so obvious to customers it makes me very nervous regarding what's going on in the kitchen that we can't see.
After asking for the bill, the borght me the wrong change over expecting me to pay their 10% service charge LOL. When leaving, we still had dirty plates from the starters & main courses on the table! I am irritated by one of your responses to a previous review where you state service charges are common in our industry, yes your right they are at high end places where the service is impeccable and they are still optional rather than just being added to the bill without evan asking.
I suggest you learn to use some basic phrases such as "are you finished with your startes", & "Are you ready for your...
Read moreOne star is the lowest rating but if I had the option I would rate this place with a minus! The experience started when I tried to book a table for 6 for an occasion lunch. Never received any acknowledgement receipt nor a confirmation. Tried to contact on the phone 3 times as I was worried that my booking did not go through, left a voice message, no calling back. I finally managed to get through on the same day of the reservation and it was thankfully confirmed. We were all excited to spend the day in a supposedly lovely place and enjoy the food. The experience turned out to the most horrible in terms of food and service. The service was slow which was not the worst part of it. Our mains came cold and totally tasteless, when we spoke to the manager he only said that staff needs training 🙄. Except of the starters the plates went back to the kitchen full, and when I was asked if I had finished, I said yes, I cannot eat this as it doesn't taste anything, nobody seemed to care really. Nothing to do with a 5 star rated restaurant, which makes me believe that the owner or their friends write the reviews. The interior was a failed effort to give a touch of luxurious ambience but cheap plastic flowers totally spoiled the quality. There are so many other places in Milton Keynes serving Turkish and Mediterranean kitchen and we have tried them all. These places show respect to their clients and try their best in case something goes wrong. This place is an absolute minus to zero food quality and zero service, we felt so sorry for our choice and the awful waste of our money. First time is our last time, ...
