This was a long one, so for people wanting a quick opinion here’s my summary. Edit: Thanks for the cut a paste response to this miller & carter. If your going to respond to reviews respond authentically or not at all. Dropping to one star for that. Just shows how little you care. •• You can get a better steak else where and not feel ripped off or like brain washed cattle. It’s just ok but it’s not worth it 4 mains 1 sharing starter and a bottle of wine total of a little more than £160. Plays on the fact it’s expensive so people think it’s premium. They fill the table (with cheap sides and garnish) so you feel like you’ve got value. Put the waiters in shirt, tie and waist coats to appear like there’s class. Packed in like cattle with little space from the next table and Steaks aren’t anything special. ••

Ok I’ve been meaning to review this one for a while and it was my first time at a miller and carter. As you go in it looks the part with its wine glass entrance leading on to the bar and host stand as not to let the outside elements in to the seated guests which I liked. We where given a buzzer and told to sit in the bar which is where I’ll start.

Bar: Clumsy and more interested in there own banter than listening to customers. Areas small an feels like they over book their tables so they can get a pre drink out of you to up their spend pre head.

Atmosphere: Bustling! Tables packed in to maximise capacity with little space between. Expect someone’s rear in your face when the table next to you moves. Felt more like a holiday hotel buffet. The bell ringing when complements when to the kitchen felt over worked and fake. More substantially telling everyone “your foods good everyone else says so”.

Service: Held the fort he! Service was great and credit to our server zoe for being a star. Quick, friendly and helpful.

Food: After looking over the menu I thought you can get a steak anywhere and I love a ribeye so why not get one from the steaks to explore section so I ordered GRAIN FED RIBEYE 8OZ over the regular 12OZ described 50day aged with Fine marbling results in an intensely packed flavour, recommended medium. Sounds taste! I order medium as recommend. Ordered with fries and comes with a wedge of lettuce. Came out more rare than medium but that didn’t bother me I just wonted it as they recommend. The Steak was nice but small! I get it’s 8OZ pre cooked weight before you say. But the 12OZ is a quid more or the 16OZ for 6 quid more would be a better size (my friends ordered these). It’s premium! It’s grain fed! Can you tell? Simple answer no! It’s was soft and well rested but had no major in pack that would make me order it again over the others which tasted just as good. I ordered mine with beef drip which is the pot in the picture almost the same size as my steak. This was tasty and made the steak taste better but you could easy do the same with a cheaper cut and it would taste the same. Fries are fries, regular inexpensive 10mm skin on fries you’ll find in any restaurant. A wedge of lettuce. Most dishes have garnish of some kind to decorate the plate add colour or simply accompany the dish. It does none of the above. It’s a talking point if anything and a cheap table filler. Fried onion loaf as a spin on your regular onion rings was ok but everything just felt like inexpensive space fillers on the plate. Ordered an extra side for tender stem broccoli to accompany as the lettuce was pointless which was nice.

To summarise You can get a better steak else where and not feel ripped off or brain washed cattle. It’s just ok but it’s not worth it 4 mains 1 sharing starter and a bottle of wine total £160. Booked a table for 7:15pm via your website. You advise customers of several dress codes and booking policies (in particular only holding tables for 15 mins beyond the booked time on the day. As well as a few other policies. We arrived just after 7pm. Understood that we were a little early but were happy to be seated in the bar area for drinks. Very busy in the bar area that night. Restaurant obviously full. We were aware of other guests asking staff about their reservation time as they had not yet been seated at their table. At around 7:25pm (10 mins after reservation time), I asked one of your greeters (a gentleman) who apologised and said that we were the next on the list to be seated. Strange in itself as we had a reservation time but we waited in the bar. Two couples came in after us and were immediately seated. We therefore were not next. I spoke to a different greeter after a further 10 mins (now 20 mins after reservation time). This time, the person I spoke to was quite rude and just kept repeating "We are doing the best we can". He was a tall heavier set man in all black and with a short shaven beard. Very rude. The lady on the desk noticed this rudeness and interjected and explained to me that they would seat me as soon as they could but poeple were all leaving their tables late. It always happens apparently. I explained that we had a train to catch and that we were on a time limit. She apologised which is at least something. All in all, this set the tone for the evening. We were eventually seated at 7:45pm. Hurried to a table. Served by a pleasant waitress but who had food all over her clothes and shoes. In fact, lots of your staff looked very unkempt and were carrying filthy cloths when serving food. We sat in view of the kitchen. About 20 plates of food just sitting there for ages. We only had a main course - average quality steaks. Passable but not worth the £35 price tag. We didn't have time for dessert. It just ruined the evening. It was a special occasion. My mother's birthday. Advised at booking and asked again at entry - no mention of it thereafter. Not sure why you asked. We were visiting our daughter who is studying in Durham. Had to get train back to Durham that evening. Just really poor. You clearly just pack people in and then can't manage a...

This is a late review from our dining service, back on Weds 24th Sept evening * ..

We went as a family to dine our at the Miller and Carter's restaurant in Newcastle for first time, as we are often regulars to this particular restaurant food chain down south of the UK when eating out. We like to say from our point of view: we would immensely recommend trying this place when up north if able to!

.. First off from the get go, we were welcomed with great customer service throughout the day, as well food service given to us on time and cooked hot to our liking. Not only this was the best outing to this restaurant we been to in ages, but my own mother had her favourite Banoffee Pie dessert. She enjoyed this so much she said it was her BEST one she had in her life, period (and that is saying something lol)! .. My father also enjoy the dining event that evening, including the free drinks on me and chats from the staff as well.

We like to not only thank for all those that evening, both the staff with their great service and also the chefs for their well made hot cooked dishes ... BUT most importantly, we would highly like to give 100% recognition to one individual who carried us throughout our experience, and that is JONNY! .. Jonny at all times, was always making us feel welcomed during our evening great, always given us his highly well knowledge of all food dishes and drinks to go for, and also he always gave very good conversations with us to feel at home during our time in Newcastle!

.. Please do let Jonny know right away about our this review here, just to let him know exactly how much we REALLY appreciate his hardwork, his food expertise and how very sufficient this gentleman was with my parents all that evening before the game (Also to let him know, the football game that evening was awesome, that even the away Bradford fans made the football experience very welcomed and friendly environment on that night: final score New 4 - 1 Brad)!

We cannot wait to come back again sometime soon, once we get another set of home tickets, to come back to Miller and Carter's up north, to see all you guys again once more! :)

.. All of love,...

I’ve visited Miller several times and have had the chance to try both their burgers and steaks. The burgers are consistently excellent — juicy, well-seasoned, and well-prepared. The steaks also deliver on flavor, especially the smaller cuts(12 oz), which are tender and balanced. However, the larger steaks (16oz) don’t quite meet the same standard and can feel less refined in comparison. The sides that accompany the steaks are a pleasant surprise. Also as extra choice The bone marrow, is a standout — rich, savoury, and adds a nice touch of indulgence. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is a highlight — warm, soft, and just the right amount of sweetness to finish a meal. However, there were a few experiences that felt below the standard expected from a high-end restaurant. On one visit, I was served a batch of fries that were clearly the end of the line — overcooked, dry, and almost burnt. Even Mc Donalds would not sell it. While the waitress handled it very professionally and quickly brought out a fresh portion, it was disappointing that something in that condition left the kitchen at all. Similarly, a non-alcoholic mojito I ordered came out rushed and unbalanced — lemon slices floating at the top, sparkling water at the bottom, and little sign it had been properly mixed. It felt more like an afterthought than a crafted drink. Miller has some great dishes and thoughtful elements on the menu, but inconsistencies in preparation and quality control occasionally take away from the overall experience. For a place positioned as a premium dining spot, I’d expect more attention to detail. 3/5. I would definetely give 4/5 if the french fries incident did not happen. I thought about giving 2/5 because i really took that fries as an insult..
