The atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable. Everything was wonderfully clean even though I was the very last customer of the day. For the price point, the service is amazing, and the food is well worth it. In recent years, it seems like going out to eat in most establishments brings with it a spectre of regret at the increasing price, but the prices at Akshaya, aside from being generally respectable, are actually on the cheap side for the quality provided. Specifically, I expected my meal to cost about £10 more than it did due to mistaken mental maths, and I still felt that was a fair price.
I had the Seekh Vegetable Kebab and Veg Biryani; I'd especially recommend the former, which comes on a steaming-hot plate with accessory lemon and onion along with four sauces; three are classic Indian restaurant dips, while one is highly mysterious and tremendously delicious. The menu describes it as a suitable vegetarian starter, and I'd be inclined to agree, especially for those who prefer generous portions.
I think going to a great restaurant shouldn't just be a meal, it should be an experience, and based on that I've added Akshaya to my list of great restaurants. I won't spoil the fun little treat you get at the end of the meal, but despite being an ultimately small thing it really enhanced my enjoyment. Not just excellent food, not only pleasant atmosphere and good service, but also being fun by the end of the meal is what has me recommending this restaurant with...
Read moreStaying in the City for a few days, my group fancied an Indian meal, looking through Google search, Akshaya had one of the highest rate reviews, located in the City and close to main areas we were visiting, didn't booked just a walkin for 4, made very welcome on arrived by the male waiter, ask where we would like to be seated, and drinks order taken, on being provided with menus some dishes were not available and provided recommendations on others, nice decor inside, the sound of the water behind us and soft music, provided a very calming and chilled out atmosphere. The meal was spot on, large pieces of meat in all our dishes, plenty of sauce for the nan breads to mop up after, my chicken tikka masla wasn't what I'm accustom too (a little darker in the sauce), but have been told in the past dishes vary due to Indian regional areas, but it didn't disappont one of the best I have had, the whole keema nan filled with meat not just in one area of the nan like normal, hands down for overall experience of staff, venue and food 10 stars,...
Read moreAfter a very long day travelling to Nottingham for a family event, we decided to have a curry as a reward. We chose Akshaya as it had good reviews and was close to our hotel. I'm a curry obsessive and have had curry in Asia, Rusholme and London.
We were greeted by Molly the waitress, very professional and personable. More than anything, she was present and engaged which is quite rare in many restaurants. Obviously keen to make sure we were comfortable and happy, she answered our questions on the menu options and was happy to suggest our amendments to the chef.
I had curry in Goa over 20 years ago, and have only found one that compares. This restaurant has a Goan Chicken curry option - which I'm always suspicious about, as it's usually a generic Bengali style version.
It was excellent, with different layers of taste.
Lacey also served us, also professional and personably. Both were immaculately turned out and determined to make sure our night was enjoyable.
I can't fault anything - top quality food, service and setting. I highly...
