Dined here as a party of 8 for our Christmas meal. 3 course set menu - no option to choose fewer courses. The starters were shared but because we had vegans and vegetarians in our party I couldn't eat what I fancied because otherwise there wouldn't have been anything edible for them. Some of the mains brought to the table weren’t what we ordered. By the time the correct dishes came out other people’s mains were cold. Vegetables were served separately to share. So stingy there wasn’t even enough for us to have a sliver of carrot each - we had to ask for more. Mix up with the puddings too, cue more waiting. We were supposed to give our table back within 2 hours but it took longer than that to bring the food out, let alone to eat it. Our drinks were forgotten on two occasions. When my red wine arrived it was sloshed in my lap as it was put down. A £40 service charge was automatically added to the bill which given the quality of the service didn’t impress me. The young waiting staff seemed overstretched and inexperienced but at least they were polite.
The same can’t be said of the barman with pink hair downstairs. Three customers at the bar, one being served, another besides me waiting. Five minutes passed yet none of the four staff behind the bar acknowledged us. The pink haired man was making cocktails, carelessly spraying liquid all over me as he mixed them. Another man was drying glasses and it was unclear what the other two staff were doing. I exchanged words with the other customer waiting who was understandably getting impatient. Still none of the staff acknowledged us. Eventually I spoke up and got a shirty response from the pink haired man - if the glasses weren’t dry, how did we expect to be served? I pointed out there were at least 50 dry glasses behind the bar already - I only wanted one! I’ve worked behind a bar so I know it can feel overwhelming at times but a simple ‘we’ll be with you as soon as we can’ would have gone a long way - by ignoring us it felt as though we were invisible. As a customer spending my hard-earned money and I don’t expect to be treated...
Read moreWasn't sure if I should leave a review but as Im very unlikely to return I thought I should.
Have been here once previously and was a pleasant experience. Today, wasn't great. At the front of house, we were told the brunch menu has all of the breakfast items on but also includes everything else (so we said we'd take that menu) and asked if we were able to still order breakfast, it was 11.52 when we came in and she said yes no problem. We sat upstairs. When looking at the brunch menu only 4 breakfast items were on there - looking online the breakfast menu is much bigger. We requested a breakfast menu from a server who told us it was no longer breakfast (explained the situation and after an awkward hesitation he said it was fine). When ordering, I asked if the extra side of toast was 1/2 slices, waitress said she believed it was 2, my sister asked to swap a mushroom for a sausage and she said they may be an extra charge but she would ask the chef. Food arrived and was nice, one of my sister's sausages was pink in the very centre she said it was fine but might put some others off. I asked for my extra toast and was told I had it. I pointed out she said it would be 2 slices and she said she could bring me some more toast if I wanted. I thanked her.
We finished our food and asked for the bill.. I was charged twice for the toast, my sister was charged an extra £1.95 for a sausage. It wasn't a terrible experience but attention to detail was very sloppy. I felt very uncomfortable having to keep asking for things or for clarification and questioned why I'd been charged twice for roast, she simply smiled at me and said she brought me extra toast?? If you do visit, I would urge you to get clarification when they offer you things to make sure they won't just keep charging you as it's very misleading and made this experience not great for us. It wasn't a busy Sunday either so I can't imagine how the service would be on a busy day. I feel awkward even leaving this review but hope the venue can take these points on board for...
Read moreI have to say I was pretty impressed at this new establishment, a chain with a few other restaurants in the Midlands and beyond.
There were plentiful staff, possibly due to new opening, from welcoming us in to showing us around as you might have at a fine dining eatery. All were smiling and courteous. Very plush decor in an already grand building.
The downstairs main bar is large and more functional, the gin bar cosy! Upstairs are large (my favourite) and small private rooms. Another private room is on the middle floor with the dining area. Again, this is pretty vast and opulent.
The restaurant’s aim appears to be decent service with a smile, efficient use of covers and tasty, attractive British food with worldwide twists at mid-level prices and good value. In this respect it didn’t disappoint.
Brunch dishes of shakshuka for me and all day breakfast for my colleague came quite swiftly, and attractive on the plate. Good quality ingredients and overall rich, tasty food with a good emphasis on flavour and seasoning. My only complaint would be that my additional rosti was obviously machine formed and fried from frozen - but for the price, I can’t complain too much!
I’ve already come here again the next day, for evening drinks - a tad slow but what else would you expect on a flowing Saturday night on opening weekend - I’m sure that’ll improve. Cocktails appeared reasonable value for Nottingham, and were tasty. If it stays this busy perhaps they can open a free private room in the future.
Looking forward to visiting again for their tapas selection or mains (ever so slightly less appealing when looking at the menu cf tapas or brunch menus) and of course some...
