Oh, Junkyard, you sly temptress. When the night seems to begin to slumber, when the doors slam shut and when the students descend into clubs and discotheques, your warm, friendly welcome reminds one of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks but with booze.
Open till god knows when, Junkyard combines a welcoming atmosphere with the comfort to sit by yourself and ruminate if that's your wont. The beer is craft and overpriced, but then you're paying for the friendly staff, the convenient hours, the open-minded atmosphere and the constantly changing selection that adds variety to any week and any night.
Staff are indeed a considerable plus of the place, and they know their beer just as well as they know their customers. The venue is low-lit and low-key, but can bustle as much as any mainstream bar and fizzle with excitement. The crowd are often interesting and alive with conversation, but the introvert need not feel out of place either.
Hidden down one of Nottingham's lesser-known passageways, Junkyard is for many a last stop before the tram or stagger home, and a punctuation point in any evening. Pull up a stool, sup a beer you've never tasted before (nor will again) and decide whether your night is over or whether, as Mr Spock tells us, "there are always...

Quite a bold statement considering the competition in Nottingham, but right now (September 2022) there's nowhere I'd rather go. They have just got a new chef and they have really elevated the menu. The courgette with whipped feta, warm honey and pine nuts is amazing. I had it two days in a row. Also highly recommended: crab crumpet, tempura cod tortilla and the halloumi.
I've been coming to Junkyard since it opened and love the place. 10 - 12 craft beers always on and always 3 or 4 of them you'll get nowhere else or ever see again. Crazy 12% marshmallow imperial stout, fruited gose and everything in between.
The staff here are really friendly, service is fast and there's always a great atmosphere.
Junkyard shares its lovely covered outside space with the Kilpin which has a great range of European beers on draft and in bottles.
A visit here could easily see you try more beer styles than most beer festivals!

Read moreIt’s really unfortunate that I had a bad experience here. I have been before and it was incredible, however this time I visited and was served by someone with absolutely terrible attitude. I ordered some food which took around 3 times to get the order right on the system, I didn’t complain. Then I ordered a bloody mary and there was some confusion whether it was a virgin mary or not. The manager got involved with the conversation and did nothing but confuse matters even more. The server was pulling faces at me and giving me the worst attitude I have experienced, they certainly don’t know how to make a bloody mary properly. It is a craft beer spot after all. Then I said that I would just leave the order, to which the bar manager responded with “we are not going to serve you”, even though I was already leaving. It was awfully embarrassing and won’t...
