Will start this review off just to say how the process works here for any first timers reading as there's very little knowledge to find about how these board game cafes work, basically this one as we were told by a nice member of staff that we can purchase the food, drinks and games there. And if we would like to play any games in the cafe you have to pay a coverage of 5 pounds per individual. Up until closing time. Which we did, now this is where I personally got a little confused because we paid our five pounds each to play the board games there although we weren't given any reciept or really anything to prove that we paid that 5 pound coverage. My girlfriend got herself a cola and red velvet cookie. I got myself a latte that tasted great. We sat at the front near the counter were you pay for all services to have our food and drinks before playing a game, only because with our little knowledge we weren't sure if you were allowed to eat and drink while you play. We don't like to step on anybody's toes you see. We asked a girl working there if it would be possible to play games on the table that we were eating on and she said yes although went on to say about the coverage charge. We told her we paid and that was that but I felt a bit uneasy having nothing to prove it to her you know, also after playing a long game of scrabble it seems that I seen people have drinks at least while they played. So i believe you may be able to drink and eat while playing but I'm not completely sure. Now other reviews do say it gets cold inside and they are right it was pretty cold. I put on my jacket though and problem was solved. All the staff were really friendly and a worker took the time to say bye to us even though he was in the middle of something. Lovely...
Read moreIt's taking me quite a while to formulate a review for my most recent visit to The Dice cup.
Now my first visit was a few years back and I absolutely adored the dice cup. It was a beautiful board game Cafe with a wonderful selection of games to play and to purchase and a nice stash of food.
However, as the years have gone on, the board game selection to purchase has dwindled. I appreciate that it is a board game Cafe and is designed to play games there. However, I do like to be able to purchase games once I played them and of course nothing beats being able to game in the comfort of your own home.
I'm not quite sure what market the dice cup is now aiming towards, on my last visit there appeared to be a TCG night going on which was good to see and the fact that they continue to run events is great.
I hadn't realized how much the board game scene in Nottingham seems to have died. The dice cup still has the best collection of board games in the local area which I find is kind of sad because the selection was dire in my opinion. Maybe I'm just being greedy? I don't know.
So, the food. To surmise it, I felt like the selection was fairly limited for a board game Cafe. The fact that everything was vegan is fine. It just felt like the selection was poor.
Service, I've rated at a 4 because overall is was good service but I don't feel like it was excellent and I didn't feel overly welcome in the store?
Anyway. This amounts to I don't think I'll be revisiting any time soon for the cafe side and the dwindling stock to purchase is just pushing me to buying online.
There will be people that love the dice cup but sadly I'm not one of them and that's kind of...
Read moreTheir inclusion policy is a joke For disclosure I was a regular at the venue playing magic the gathering and issues arose due to simple misunderstandings of my autism and anxiety. The staff are inept at dealing with them, and expect that upon entering they will presume the worse of you.
In addition, they overprice most of their products and tend to burrow certain things in the hatchet, for a venue to be inclusive they sure are an expert at not speaking up for the disenfranchised.
Edit: In response to your previous statement you knew full well how I am as a person and instead of taking steps to reduce any misunderstandings you decided to make me the black sheep and bury it under the carpet, which suggest your ineptitude at dealing with the issues that pertain to all if not most people with neurodivergency. Similar issues have also happened to people I know at your venue.
In addition, you also surcharge an insurmountable amount on some of your products like Magic the Gathering (doubling the price on new sets), having to pay entry fees etc. For the amount of business practices you don't give enough trust to the consumer. It's understandable that people with families etc can hop in and play but for regulars you don't seem to have any faith.
Edit Edit: there was no correlation between the two, what happened was a failure to adapt and make changes to cater to my condition (which only resulted in me being scapegoated) and despite that you offered no defence. You failed to offer communication to relieve any misunderstandings and refused to make changes. Instead of saying you made a mistake you decided to bar me and bury it under...
