Visited here for the first time this weekend and will defiantly not be back. For starters there was no one in the pub which is never a good start on New Year’s Eve. We had booked a table for food to be told when we arrived one of the chefs had called in sick and we had only 10 mins to order, we were not informed of this prior to arriving. Then when we did order we were told no to most items that would have taken any time and could only order a simple pizza off the menu, no startersbrisket etc. The service was terrible with all our meals coming out at different times over the space of 45 minutes. The majority of the staff were rude and had no manners.
Edit: Thomas reached out to us an apologised for the service we received he was very understanding and as compensation was able to provide a round of drinks and a complimentary meal, the chef and a waiter was not present on the night came over and made us feel welcome and apologised. We understood that businesses don’t always get it right but a lot can be said for companies that make things right. It has given us a full u turn on our view of the restaurant and Thomas has gained...
Read moreAn odd venue. The Orange Tree is part of a small chain of East Midlands pubs, and the Nottingham venue is nicely retrodecorated. The venue's tables are mostly huge; if you're going as a couple or foursome then you drown in table space, or end up sharing with other people. Not always nice. This is in the heart of student accommodation, so the crowd can be young and noisy. The food is good and the lunch deals are really good value for money. Drinks are generally nudging the pricey side, though there are offers on the cocktails which will appeal to some (the Black Forest cocktail is divine). Ale selection is poor, overpriced and served freezing cold. Staff are generally personable but the quality isn't what it was several years ago when the venue really was much superior and would have scored much higher. Veggie/vegan selection is good.
This is a pleasant venue, really centrally located and lovely on a weekday afternoon or as a place to recharge on a weekend afternoon. Weekday evenings can be pleasantly quiet though the weekends tend to be loud, crowded and not...
Read moreOutstanding Service from Megan at The Playwright
I don’t usually write reviews, but the service I received from Megan at The Playwright Pub was absolutely worth shouting about. From the moment I walked in, she made the experience welcoming and memorable.
Megan strikes the perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness. She was attentive without ever being overbearing, always checking in at the right time, and her knowledge of the menu and drinks selection was spot on. She made great recommendations that genuinely enhanced the evening.
What stood out most was how she seemed to treat every guest with the same care and energy, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere around the table. It’s rare to see someone who not only takes pride in their work but also makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer.
The Playwright is a brilliant spot in Nottingham, and Megan’s outstanding service takes it to another level. If you’re heading there, you’ll be in great hands if she’s...
