Excellent owners to offer patrons some time to socialize on Christmas day. Their response to the naysayers is 100% correct: Christmas is not the same for all people. Some people don’t have families and it is a very lonely time for them. Some hospitality employees like to work on Christmas, especially if it’s later hours where they’ve already had their family time and wanna spend time with their friends and make some extra money. Some pubs truly are a “Cheers” atmosphere and they look at each other as family. And also it’s absolute fact that a lot of people do not like their in-laws and don’t get along with their family. Always feel a bit dubious about rating this pub. I'm of an age where I'm told that repetition could be a sign of dementia. Suspect they're wrong! Once again I've had the Joy of a beer in the Navvie. Came up to see the mighty Chorley FC.,..(nuff said). Circumstances meant that I had the pleasure of three visits within not many hours (and more pints). Used this pub for years, as a visitor for football, and have yet to find anything to remotely whinge about. They seem to have cornered the market on half decent bar staff and the ambience seeps through the walls. Very much enjoyed my first visit to Trent Navigation.

The onsite (adjacent) brewery is a big draw for someone like myself who enjoys local brews. They have a fine selection to boot!

The general atmosphere of the pub was great. I with a few friends enjoyed two live Rugby matches with a few pints and some very nice food. We have been reliably informed that even when the football is on all types of sports fans are catered for and this is a welcomed bit of news considering the pub is situated right next to Notts County.
