One positive thing I can say about Viva is the food is tasty. Beyond that... oof.
I'm disabled, and so obviously accessibility is a priority. A friend emailed ahead of our booking to inform the restaurant we needed a ground floor table due to this; and instead of letting us know there are two steps to get in to the building, and that the bathroom is up an absolute death trap of stairs, they said that would be fine. The downstairs area is tiny, nothing the Google images could've warned us of. So I put my walker in the only "free" space available. I was asked first quite nicely if I would leave my medical equipment outside. No, I would not. I thought that would be the end of it. Only then a man (who I assume is the manager) tried again about ten minutes later, attempting to move it before even asking. Every person at the table had to tell him "no" multiple times. Arguing over not leaving my literal mobility aid in the street was not an experience I had anticipated, and it soured the rest of the meal.
If you're not equipped to handle disabled people, then let them know. Save them feeling humiliated and like a burden in future. And leave disabled people's medical...
Read moreFood was lovely but the service was rushed and strange, never experienced anything like it to be honest. Had a booking for 7pm (booked around two weeks prior) and was seated straight away. Service was super quick and everything came really fast which was nice. However, our plates were being taken the second we’d finished a dish as if we were being watched. The bill and card machine also came in next to no time. As the service was so quick, I still had some of my wine left. Baring in my mind it was only 7:40 pm, we were told people needed our table and we had to go. I told the waitress that I just needed to finish my drink and she didn’t respond. So I necked my wine and left. Never known a booking slot to be so quick (40 mins), for a meal that was over £50, and we paid a tip (before we knew we were going to be told to leave so fast). Although the food was lovely, I felt eyes on me that we were taking too long with our meal/drinks so it wasn’t entirely relaxing, and if booking slots were so short then this should have been made clear...
Read moreWe started with poppadoms and chutney, £2.50 on the menu. We ordered 2 between the 4 of us, but when the bill came they charged us £10... The waitress said that they gave us 4 portions even though we only asked for 2. This was absurd because each portion was two poppadoms (broken up into quarters) and 2 dips. Awful value for money if that's the case. This is also why we left no tip because we were overpriced.
Fish starter I had was incredible though, melt in the mouth and perfection batter.
Main meals - didn't have much of the meat or paneer in the dish. I had around 8 tiny cubes of paneer and had to mop up the rest with naan. However the rice portion was huge, you only need one for about 4 people to be honest.
Not a huge selection of drinks. Previous reviews talk about the Cobra beers being overpriced, I guess these have been reduced now as they are £5 for a can, which seems reasonable in today's world of restaurants and bars.
Probably won't go again, there are much better Indian tapas...
