We discoved KUKU during our first visit to Plymouth and had a lovelydining experience! Conveniently located in the city centre, we managed to get a table without a booking on a Sunday evening, which was a pleasant surprise considering how busy it was. We were celebrating our anniversary, and KUKU turned out to be the perfect spot. The atmosphere was lovely—cosy yet elegant, with a warm and welcoming vibe. Despite the bustling crowd, the service was fast, friendly, and genuinely impressive. Our waiter was polite, attentive, and took the time to engage in a nice conversation with us. We shared a bottle of white wine that was crisp and refreshing. The miso soup was rich and comforting, and the Tokyo Special my partner ordered was so delicious. The noodles were perfectly crispy, and the sushi platter we shared was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The sushi was truly some of the best we’ve ever had - incredibly fresh and full of flavour. To top off an already fantastic evening, the staff surprised us with a complimentary ice cream dessert with chocolate sauce after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary - a thoughtful and heartwarming gesture that made the experience even more special. We would absolutely recommend KUKU to anyone visiting Plymouth.

My friend recommended this place, knowing I was a big fan of sushi and it did not disappoint. The food was next level. There was the usual dishes you might expect to find on a Japanese inspired menu and loads I had not tried such as the beef ceviche in the picture below. The things I was used to trying before had their own twist on and were elevated in some way. We also had cocktails which were also great. The décor and feel of the place was definitely of somewhere you might want to make a bit of an effort. In fact I felt a bit underdressed as I had not been there before and not made much of an effort at all. It wasn't as though it was stuffy though so I didn't feel bad. The staff were very pleasant, welcoming and I very much enjoyed my meal here. I would recommend. It is a bit on the more expensive side but I would say this would be somewhere you would book for an occasion, a celebration perhaps or even taking that someone special out to make a great impression.

Very good Japrnese food, lovely restaurant, great choice but somewhat overpriced really. Fillet steak with wasabi, served with vegetables and boiled rice was £29. Steak was served sliced and was lovely but no real taste of any wasabi so had to ask for some separately. Steak just served on a small bed of lettuce/cabbage? but was expecting and hoping for some other vegetable accompaniment for that price! The teriyaki salmon was good too but all the flavour/marinade was on the skin so once that was removed, could have done with more teriyaki taste. Was my birthday when we visited and wish we'd said so beforehand as two other tables had people with birthdays too that day and each was presented with a cake/dessert with candles! Disappointed I missed out but good to know if you're celebrating a birthday - tell them when booking. Overall very nice but need a hefty wallet!

First time i went with a group of girls and i really enjoyed it. Went tonight with the husband and was pretty disappointed. The first waiter we had was quite rude and the rice on the only rice-based Maki dish we had was hard along one side...perhaps made and left around for a while? I wasnt overly bothered by that as the rest of the food was nice BUT, this is why i am now writing this review...i didnt eat 3/4 of one of my meals. I asked if i could take it away, was told i could. We then paid and walked out to the bar and i remembered about the food...asked about it, then the girl who took the plates said "there wasnt anything there, the plates were empty". I could not believe what i was hearing. The owner (Chris) was lovely and did offer to get another made but i just wanted to leave by this point. I do not appreciate being called a liar and by heck i have a temper on me so unfortunately my only option was to walk away. Its was quite obvious what she had done because a different waitress cleared the rest of the plates after she took the ones with the food on. I wont be going back anytime soon. Battered peppers, no. If it hadnt been for the good experience previously, i would have given 2 stars. PS bright orange, not...

Service seemed a little disorganised. We were advised when we ordered that we would receive dishes at different times, depending on when they were ready. I understand that's the way they do it but 2 of the dishes we ordered (appetizers) didn't arrive until 2 hours after we ordered them and followed up with staff regarding them

I felt like there was a lot of staff on but I'm not really sure what they were doing because we got left alone for very long periods of time.

Drinks that we requested only turned up after we reminded them, and when the guy in charge realised we weren't happy with the service we received he wasn't apologetic. It kind of seemed like he knew we weren't happy and instead of finding a way to ensure we went away happy he just gave up. It's worth mentioning we spent over £200 and we did leave with the feeling that we were valued customers. I think the manager was glad to see the back of us. I would also like to say that we didn't complain and we didn't cause a fuss. Just that we mentioned that we waited a very long time

I do have to say though that the food was very nice. We all enjoyed what we had but the service let it down . There are other places I would prefer to go...
