Plymouth's Pit and Pendulum is a horror of a pub. Unfriendliest pub you'll likely ever experience. Ultra cliquey. Is effectively a chapter house for the pub's in-crowd. Other customers are made to feel acutely unwelcome, are treated shockingly rudely and even with hostility. Bar staff constantly clown around and drink. Male bar staff are disturbingly - seriously disturbingly - lecherous to female customers. Doesn't matter if you've been there before, or are 'alternative'; 'outsiders' will get this treatment - as witnessed repeatedly. Ironic behaviour, given the pub's 'alternative' projection and the 'alternative' scene's professed inclusivity and equality. Other reviewers observe the same shaming things; there are also glowing reviews; the very polarisation speaks to two groups: 1) the pub's in-crowd, 2) the unwanted 'outsiders'. You may like the pub's music and its bits of strewn pound-shop Halloween tat; this won't make-up for the horrible experience you'll almost certainly have. Go somewhere else.
