A truly, truly authentic Japanese experience in the heart of Plymouth. Having been to japan this place really is true to the real thing. From the classy, chic & uncomplicated decor to the beautiful little trinkets it really does transport you. It’s tiny & only has 3 tables but if you go, you’ll understand why as the attention to detail of the staff is second to none & everything is prepared with time, care & attention. The perfectionism is unreal and it really shows. Due to it being so small even though we’d booked other customers hadn’t finished so we had a 30/40 minute wait for the table, but I have to say the amazing waiter (who was the only one) could not have been kinder, more polite or attentive! He made us feel happy about waiting and his demeanour is to be highly commended. He really was a super star & made sure we were kept happy, engaged & looked after whilst we waited. The wonderful owners/chefs also provided us with free mochi which was sublime. When we were finally seated our food came really quickly due to the magnificence of the waiter who had taken our order whilst we waited. The Fudo zendo sunshi was lovely & even my mushroom & cucumber hating husband adored it. Both the veg & prawn tempura was out of this world excellent & was coated in the lightest batter I’ve ever experienced & came with a vinegar dipping sauce that was so unique. Both main courses were good with the Katsu having the perfect sweet to spice ration & my mushroom ramen was packed full of veggies & was exactly like those we had in Japan. Unfortunately I couldn’t finish mine due to acid reflux problems but this was no problem for the staff who completely understood & again the waiter related to me & made me feel much better about the situation. It’s very rare ambience, food & service are all as top quality as this, but KYOWA manages it with ease. I’d like to say a HUGE thanks to the chefs & also, more than anyone else our fantastic waiter (I’m sorry I didn’t get your name) you are truly truly PHENOMENAL & should be so proud of yourself, you...

Yes! We would like to advise our friends to try this delicious Japanese restaurant!

We booked a table over the phone for 9:00 PM, but unfortunately had to wait until about 9:20 before we could be seated. Luckily, after communicating with the staff, they kindly arranged a table for us just 5 minutes later and even let us place our order early — which we really appreciated since our little one was hungry! Big thanks to the team for being so helpful and polite — they even apologised nicely.

We ended up having a lovely chat with both the staff and the owner — everyone was really friendly. The ramen, udon, and bento were all delicious! My husband especially loved the char siu ramen. He’s tried char siu ramen in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and said the one here was really tasty. He personally prefers thicker ramen, but understands this is a Tokyo-style ramen (thin ramen) shop. If you’re a fan of that style, you’ll probably love it too. The soup base was just perfect right — flavourful without being too salty or heavy. Overall, he was very happy with his meal! I’m so glad that I have picked a good choice to try with my family, especially its for my son’s birthday celebration trip.

Our child really enjoyed his bento as well — he was smiling the whole time once he started eating. (He was just really hungry at the start!) I had the Japanese grilled chicken udon and thought both the broth and noodles were absolutely delicious. As a family, we’d definitely recommend this place to friends — in fact, we already have!

After chatting with the owner, we found out that you usually don’t need to book for lunch, but for dinner it’s a good idea to book 1 to 2 weeks in advance.

The decor inside the restaurant is also really lovely — the owner brought back some pieces from Tokyo, which made the whole place feel super authentic and cozy. Having been to Japanese restaurants in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, it’s so nice to find one here in the UK that captures that traditional Japanese...

What can i say, i came here today to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend, and we both can agree it was the best food we had ever had in our lives.

I messaged a few days ago to book a table in advance and mentioned how i would be on a tight time but they were extremely accommodating and assured me of the quick service ( which i can say was exceptionally quick and amazing!)

We were seated on our table and welcomed by very friendly staff. Our waiter (James i think his name was) Was so polite and friendly. We ordered and i think no longer than 10 minutes later our starters and sushi arrived. I have no words…they were out of this world. I have never tasted such fresh and delicious sushi in my life. We had the Crispy duck roll, Ryu Dragon roll and the Takoyaki. Not long after we finished our main course came out. We had the Katsu chicken ramen and the Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth was so flavourful and delicious and the toppings were cooked to perfection. This was definately the best dining experience i have ever had.

To add on, The chef was extremely friendly, he came out to greet customers and was a pleasure to talk to. Not to mention the decoration and cleanliness of the restaurant was beyond perfect.

The only complaint i have is that the place isn’t bigger because i would love to bring everyone i know...
