Unfortunately asked for a beer, was given a cider (was not busy at the bar) when I advised it was wrong and asked for him to repour the man behind the bar was adiment he had poured a beer and begrudgingly poured correctly this time. Have been previously and no issues but common that not all staff are welcoming, some staff are actually very nice.
Children's food was a good price and the dinner portion was a good side. Children's spaghetti Bolognese was surprisingly flavourful and was a very large portion, 10/10 ! Starter of garlic bread was one very small slice (a little overcooked) so bit of a waste of money. 3/10 However a showstopper of a Pudding with the brownie and ice cream ! It was a fantastic size, and was a 10/10 from them ( and dad ! ) presentation, was also a solid 10/10 no complaints there. Food was brought out very fast (chef mike?) Staff collected dinner and brought out pudding and we weren't waiting with empty plates Infront of us.
Children's play area was clean and tidy and not sticky, so attention has clearly been paid by the staff cleaning it. There's a £1 vending machine with small toys, and a 'prize every time' claw machine for £1 a pop. There's a toddler area and also a "older" child's area. Lovely little indoor play area as long as parents are supervising
The floor and tables and fabric chairs in the 'family' seating area really did need cleaning (why put carpet and fabric seating in the family area?) As various vegetables and foodstuffs were mashed into the floor and beans in the crevices of the chairs. It wasn't for lack of staff as three were chatting to eachother casually, definitely felt uncomfortable asking them to come and wipe the table and use the broom on the floor, and the response was like it was an inconvenience (Shouldn't have had to ask really, they definitely had time if they were chatting)
The hotel door into the restaurant is in the family area and if you're unlucky enough to be seated by it you may just get people walking in and out.
The toilet is between the family area and the children's play area, so you can often get people coming by. The baby change toilet isn't wheelchair accessible.
Didn't feel like the positioning of the tables and chairs in the family area were considerate of a wheelchair user or had accessibility in mind and would likely need to stand up to mind out the way if a person with accessibility needs wanted to use the bathroom, go to a table, or supervise a child in the family area.
Will definitely go back again, we just know we have to keep an open mind about staffs mindsets about working in catering/ hospitality. It's giving :...
Read moreCalled in here on the off chance there would be a table as we were in the area. The girl at the door was smiley and helpful and managed to find a high table for two. Good start. I went to the bar to order food and drink, where a couple of young lads were chatting behind the bar. That's fine apart from the fact they both just looked blankly at me, and I had to ask for service! One of the lads came over, and I ordered two simple meals and two soft drinks. He forgot what the drinks were, so I repeated, then he forgot what the last drink was! Is it really that hard these days?! I left the bar with my coke and oj and lemonade, sat at the table, and waited for the food to arrive. Came fairly quickly in fairness and was warm. Shame it wasn't hot, but acceptable. The girl bringing the food over walked past us twice, looking for our table. When she found us, she just put the two meals down, said here, and turned to walk away. As my partner and I were switching the meals over to have the right one as she didn't ask, the server turned back to us and said, "Oh yeah, do you want sauce?" We asked for ketchup and mayo. Off she went, she came back a minute or two later with two plastic pots that had cheap ketchup and some odd tasting mayo. Not only is it expensive in the pub, but you get knock-off sauce, not to mention the amount of plastic waste this is!! Thought everyone was conscious of waste these days?! Not here! Anyway, the simple burgers we ordered were quite nice and homemade. I would say. Shame they were not hot. The fries with skin on were quite good, but only warm, and there was a small pile of coleslaw. It was a small amount of fries and coleslaw which is rubbish for the cost. Definitely better off going yo micks monster burger on the hill and getting fresh hot value for money food. I wouldn't bother going back, though a few staff were quite jolly. The environment is OK in there, but I guess it depends on who else is there. We were unfortunate enough to have a couple of kids jumping around by our table being quite noisy and hitting a balloon around near us. My other half has a weird phobia of balloons! Anyway, the staff didn't seem to care about them being a nuisance around other diners and in the walkways! To sum up , average food, poor service, pricey for what you get and not the...
