Southsea SeaFront Cafe — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Unwelcoming and expensive. Went to go to brewers Fayre but was closed unexpectedly so decided to go here. Wasn’t open yet so just sat outside on their benches until they did. The staff started bringing out their outside signage around us and didn’t once acknowledge us. They didn’t make it known once they were open so we just went in ourselves. Miserable, blunt staff. Food wasn’t bad but the price vs portion size was. I appreciate they’re near the beach, but £10.50 for a fry up with just 1 of everything is steep. Regular fry up, mini fry up and a kids fry up, black coffee, latte and a fruit shoot came to £35. Cheap tomato sauce sachets unless you want to spend 25p on a Heinz one. Staff then sat on the table behind us even though we were the only ones in there and there was plenty of other tables to sit at, and were just having their own breakfasts and chatting. As we got up to leave we got a ‘thank you’ - and that’s about as warm as the customer service got. Wouldn’t bother, plenty of nicer places in southsea worth the money and...

First and last visit here today. Took 5 minutes to get served...no prices on the paninis or jacket potatoes. Was £38 for 2 portions of chips, 3 paninis, 1 jacket potato and 2 fruit shoots. Took an age to arrive the food was slapped down no asking who which meal was for. An extra 25p per sachet if we wanted ketchup, chips were dry and flavourless, paninis I could have made better myself. No dressing on the meagre side salad.

I don't normally write reviews for restaurants but felt the need to as this was so bad. Feels like they are very complacent due to the location and the trade they must get with...

Would not recommend this place for fish and chips. My kids caf type food was ok but my fish came rock hard batter, thick with minimal fish in the middle and the chips were not more-ish. The interior design is pleasant and may well be ok for other food, but given they say fish and chips on the exterior then that is over-selling. You may also want to bring your own sauces if you aren't keen on ketchup and brown sauce which is see through and obviously the cheapest the cash and carry could offer. I did not feel well after and it wasn't a great start...
