Me and my wife decided to pop in with our two year old daughter as I have fond memories of Wimpy as a kid, so was looking forward to a nice lunch with the family. When we arrived, we grabbed a table to find that half of the chairs had ketchup smeared all over them. After finding some clean chairs, my wife went up to order. There were only three or four young girls working and it was obvious that none of them wanted to be there. After taking our order, my wife was told they couldn't take a debit card because the machine was broken and could we pay by cash. After saying that we only had a card, the girl huffed at my wife in frustration and went off to get a working card machine without a word or a smile. We were then told to go and sit down and they would call our number when the food was ready in 5 minutes or so. We waited 35 minutes before we were called, which angered me as the girls behind the counter seemed more interested in helping themselves to food and drink and laughing about, rather than cooking and serving customers (we were not the only families left waiting). 35 minutes for two burgers and a couple of kids sausages just isn't on...especially when you have a hungry and impatient two year old to feed! Eventually our number was called, but no apology for the delay...in fact, not even a smile! The tray was thrown on the counter and left for me to get it! I thought it couldn't get any worse until I opened the food! Luckily my burger was nice, but my wife's was served in a soggy brown bun which was broken into three pieces. It was such a mess, she had a couple of bites and had to throw it away! For our daughter, we ordered two sausages with a side salad. Well, we ended up getting two burnt sausages and a box of plain lettuce, half of which was brown! When we went up and asked where the rest of the salad was, the girl behind the counter just said they run out of everything so only had lettuce left...again no apology; she just turned her back and went back to chatting with her friends behind the counter. I cannot believe how badly the service and cooking was. Seriously, the girls working should be sacked and replaced by people who know what good customer service means. We definitely won't be going back to this Wimpy ever again and I would advise others to stay clear too. £16 for two bags of cold chips, two burgers (one in a soaking wet and broken bun), two burnt child's sausages and a box of brown lettuce! To top it off, the sausages were so burnt that our daughter broke the plastic fork trying to pick it up and nearly choked on it...luckily we caught it in time and removed the sharp plastic from her mouth. I wish I had got some photos to post on here, as I am seriously in disbelief of how bad our...
Read moreFrom the moment my wife and I stepped into the Wimpy at Clarence Pier, Southsea, it was as though we were transported back to the fondest memories of yesteryear. The warm welcome we received from Barry, a staff member whose dedication to customer service was palpable, set the tone for what was to be an unexpectedly delightful dining experience.
The atmosphere inside was buzzing with the comforting sounds and smells of a quintessentially British eatery; it was both familiar and inviting. As we settled in, the charm of the place began to work its magic on us. Barry, with a personable approach that is so often missing in today's fast-paced food scene, took the time to ensure our visit was more than just a meal—it was an event to be savoured.
What stood out to us wasn't just the food or the setting, but the meticulous level of service. In a delightful break from the ubiquitous "order number" system, an unnamed team member, whose attentiveness deserves applause, brought our meals directly to our table. This personal touch was a breath of fresh air and a testament to the Wimpy Southsea team's commitment to going the extra mile for their guests.
Now, let's talk about the meal that has lingered in our minds for over two decades—the Wimpy Quarter Pounder with Cheese. It was a moment of truth as we took that first bite; would it live up to our cherished memories? The answer is a resounding yes! The burger was just as we remembered: succulent, cheesy, and profoundly satisfying. Each bite was a reminder of what made Wimpy an icon of our younger days, and we were thrilled to see that neither time nor tide could wash away the quality we loved.
Our visit to Wimpy in Southsea wasn't just a trip down memory lane; it was a reaffirmation of the timeless appeal of good food, made with care, and served with a smile. Barry and his team have not just maintained the legacy of the beloved brand; they've elevated it, delivering an experience that we will both treasure and undoubtedly return to.
In an age where the dining experience often feels impersonal and rushed, Wimpy Southsea stands as a beacon of what it means to blend tradition with impeccable service. We cannot recommend it enough and eagerly anticipate...

He looked down & played it off” going to carry on making food. I then asked the Manager to ask him to wash his hands please before touching my food he in turn tried starting something & getting aggressive towards me as a the customer .shouting he had not picked his nose even though I had just watched im & eventually to my absolute shock as a trained chef who has worked in good e. stablishments, I was giving a refund & told to leave as there was customers who had witnessed this whole event. leaving me just in general complete shock as I have just never ever seen anything like that go on in a kitchen & then get excused. Later on realising I couldn’t be happier to not have got a burger that they had let someone handle with bogeys on there hand & he not have been fired or sanctioned is something else . Still amazes me as I know kitchens, this would not happen as it did in any other kitchen or establishment, I have never heard of...
