We arrived and our table was ready for us. We then waited approx 20 minutes for our drinks order to be taken, when the restaurant was not busy in the slightest. We then waited another 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Still waiting for our food order to be taken. The food come out approximately 30 mins later, we were all shocked at the amount of food we didn’t get for the price. I’m giving the food rating a 1 for the amount of potatoes I got in my “roast dinner”. We got a minimal amount of veg, no stuffing EACH, one cob of cauliflower with the “cauliflower cheese”, 1 potato each. We then requested for stuffing for everyone and extra vegetables which the waitress said she will bring out. We were waiting patiently for these, and another table complained about potatoes to which they received this immediately and by the time we finished our meal they still hadn’t bought the stuffing and extra veg out. To which when asked again they said I can bring it out now, once we had finished. Upon discussing our concerns with the manager, he responded with “oh really” followed with a vacant stare. He then proceeded to offer 10% off despite all of the table not being happy with the meal we paid for. He then upped it to 20%, and offered us a drink on the house to which he then stated we won’t get the 20% off. All of our party was extremely dissapointed in not only the food, but the service we also received. We shall not be...

This pub is another stop on the mystery day out book you can get for old portsmouth. They have a window pain that Nelson himself scratched his name into with with diamond ring. The interior of this pub sticks to that tie to old times and it looks more like a pub you'd expect to see up in the lake district rather than Portsmouth, in a good way! Filled with old wooden beams and open fires this place is bursting with charm and charisma.

Sadly it is part of a chain, and the food menu shows this, which is a far cry from the look and feel of the place. Wr did eat here and the food was good, so no complaints about the quality or size or anything like that. Just feels like the sort of place you should be able to order home made type foods rather than pub chain foods. You can see from the photo we both tried out a couple of their footlong dishes, which was wat too much food for us and we def should have shared one between us! Trying to drink afterwards was a mission! (Which we succeeded in FYI! 😋).

Beautiful pub, and if you want a great blend of old style and new running this is a great pub! I would def go back for a...

Visited this place on Saturday as it was highly recommended. I called and made a table booking with a manager called Scott. I explained that I would be traveling from Liverpool to Portsmouth visiting family and that I would be bringing my pensioner parents and elderly Aunt who was recovering from a stroke. Scott was very kind and reassuring and went out of his way to make sure that our table received outstanding service through the evening. The food was excellent and arrived in good time. Another manager - Charles visited our table to welcome us and to ensure we were comfortable and were enjoying our evening at the Dolphin. At the end of the evening, Scott came and offered to help me get my Aunt who struggles to walk to our car with just kindness and respect. I have to say that the staff at the Dolphin were very welcoming, kind and friendly. We had a lovely family Xmas get together in a comfortable, warm and welcoming pub. Will definitely be making visits to the Dolphin more regular. Would highly recommend this venue. Thank you so much To Managers Scott and Charles and the rest of the staff....

Read such great reviews so only one that we stopped by when drove to Portsmouth for a day out. Dog friendly yes it was all around the pub but nothing on menu for dogs so something to add maybe. A bowl of water was given though! Ambience decent. Food was average! The seafood pie was a let down! The cocktail was just sugar sweet. Chicken was tender in the meal. Sauce though tasted more like Passata. Lasagne was decent. But for the price main with some peas thrown as side and chips or fries hmm… ! Seasoning, taste all needed a bit of an extra!

A decent gastro-pub with an ok selection of beers. I used to frequent this pub a lot when it was a dark traditional pub reminiscent of Nelson's days. It now unfortunately has changed management and now it's following the more modern gastro-pub route. Still a decent pub on its own that allows behaved dogs (they still provide water bowls but unfortunately no more dog treats). Again a good pub that's worth a visit but can't rate it 5 stars since it seems to have changed for the worse (imho) to be more modern and "hip".
