The Pembroke — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Six of us went here on Saturday evening. Pompey was rammed, so we went slightly further out. The guy behind the bar was absolutely great. He's one of those, these days, a rare touch, who can take six drinks orders and remember them correctly. This in itself would have made me post this review. But there's more. I hadn't even had a drink before we arrived. We moved tables early, and unknown to me, I 'misplaced ' my jacket. As we went to leave, I resigned myself to the fact that it was lost and I might have a chilly evening. But a friend asked behind the bar...... They'd only gone and hung it on the coat rack! Jacket returned. Very grateful. So further thanks to the dark haired bar lady who helped...

One of the few "locals" left in the area. The emphasis here is on Pub and doesn't pretend to be anything but. People (mainly locals) go there for a drink and a chat or sometimes to listen to live music.If you are peckish there are freshly made rolls available at the bar and are very reasonably priced. If you are a visitor to the UK and want to experience the ambience of a REAL public house, then you should stop by for a drink here at this family run pub close to Southsea Common, Garrison Church, Portsmouth Cathedral and...

Proper pub, no Sky sports, locals who talk to you, real ale on tap ( Bass, London Pride, Abbot) , nicely kept. Superb bar snacks, piano in tune, seats worn over the years, pub bric-a-brac and near to historic cathedral, seafront and old Portsmouth. Piped music is gentle inviting chatter, for me at least it's a proper pub. Worth seaking out if you like traditional. These are the pubs we are losing hand over fist. Use them...
