Country Pantry — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Always meant to go here and try it and got the opportunity today. Full English breakfast was spot on. Toast on a side dish came out first shortly followed by a plate with 2 bacon, 2 sausage, beans, half a grilled tomato, mushrooms, another slice of toast and a perfectly cooked fried egg. Oh and sauté potato. None of this was greasy. Tea was extra. Several things stopped me giving 5 stars - wish the mugs of tea were bigger. There was the inevitable cooking oil smell and when it was last painted they should have used masking tape around a couple of the frames on the wall! I will definitely go back and try a lunch from the ever changing menu. A popular place judging by the amount of people that were in there early in the morning....

The restaurant offers old fashioned food. You will feel the atmosphere of the neighbourhood. Their food is simple but authentic or genuine, no unnecessary garnish. I am particularly impressed with the tideness and the cleanliness of the restaurant, as its manpower is limited. I see the staff (and the owner?) will clean and tidy up the table after use. An exceptional old school cafe serving up the finest breakfast and lunches as well as some outstanding homemade desserts!

You can usually walk in and get a table but it gets busy around peak times of the morning when all the hungry builders stop by (sign of a good fry up).
