The Cod Squad — Restaurant in Portsmouth

It's not great. They have a strange idea that everything (everything, even on a Friday and Saturday night) has to be cooked fresh and everyone has to be served in order. This means the food doesn't have time to release the excess fat while in the warmer, making it a greasy and soggy mess by the time you get home. It also means even if you just want a potion of chips you have to wait for at least ten minutes while everyone else has their orders - whatever they may be - cooked first. Nightmare. It's just as well they put on a movie to keep people occupied. The staffing is also not particularly efficient; one teenage to take the orders, one to press the button on the microwave and one guy - with a perpetually stained and grotty apron - to fry the food. Yet another staff member bags the orders. It's all very frustrating to watch and even more frustrating when you get home to disappointing food. I last used Cod Squad about 3 weeks ago ( during lockdown ) and thought quality had dropped badly, but everyone gets a one off. Went in yesterday about 5 ish 2 reg cod 1 large chips normally wait about seven to ten minutes while they cook fish , ready less than 5 minutes and they were absolutely BLOODY TERRIBLE my wife sick after about ten minute only eat couple of forkfuls of fish and few chips before pushing plate away I eat a little more and pushed plate away half hour and I had the runs. Thinking about it when I ordered there were baskets of part cooked chips on work surface behind service area and the warmers above fryers all had fish ready cooked in them , so no fish cooked to order, just like it used to be years ago. They were busy at least 6 people in till area yet still only one fryer so pre cooked had to be and I was in there at 5pm. Worst ever fish & chips in Portsmouth, if I could rate...

awful. do not go. i went here expecting staff to be friendly and there was only one girl who was polite to me, i noticed one of the employees sitting down on his phone on call, speaking awfully loudly. although the shop was empty it took 15 minutes for my order to be prepared, one cod and chips. the cod had too much batter and didn’t taste well cooked, the chips were so soggy that the bag broke.

i ordered for delivery last Tuesday, i was missing both drinks, again the cod was awful. split in half although it was smaller than the bag? there was no salt or vinegar although i had asked for it. the curry sauce was very watery and my mushy peas didn’t even taste like pea, i attempted to call them and a man said hello then proceeded to talk to me in his native language, once he had finished talking i asked him to repeat himself as i didn’t understand and he called me disgusting. definitely do...
