How a business can be this flawed is beyond me. Let's start with the facts, if you by chance happen to find yourself ordering a pastry from here, and you receive it when it is fresh out the oven within at least 10 minutes, it will be one of the best pastries in Portsmouth. HOWEVER, this is where the absolutely flawed nature of this business comes into play. 90 percent of the time you will receive an item that is outside of that 10 minute zone of tasty goodness, and when you do it is possibly worse than Greggs, just leaving a bigger hole in your wallet.
Items on the side are not kept heated, they are simply stacked onto of each other in front of a display window. When fresh items are brought out, they are simply stacked ON TOP of the items already there, meaning if you're walking home near the end of the day and think you might grab one in the evening, high chance is you get one of the first batches that has just been sitting there, all day, drying out dryer than... the customer service.
Service here is abysmal, staff are quite rude if you dare to ask any questions about well anything. Trust me, do not DARE to ask when anything last came out the oven. Not just that, but service is insanely slow. For a store that almost always has a line going out of the store, they do not think to adapt their business model. Is it really worth a near 10 minute wait in line for a gamble where the odds are not in your favour? Well maybe. This is Portsmouth after all and there are not many more things to do.
To conclude, poor, slow service, food that has a low chance of being as good as it really is, and prices that considering the casino type nature of this business, are not worth it.
It is insane to think how much more revenue could be brought in if they adjusted their operations. Though from the looks of things I doubt that is of any concern considering how you will never find this store looking near to empty.
I would avoid The Cornish Bakery unless you so happen to have meticulously studied when best to swoop in for a fresh pastry. Only then, in spite of the sour faces serving you, will you feel justified spending half an hours wages on a sweet treat. Even still, whenever M&S decide to move their foodhall closer to Gunwharf, you'd be better off going there.
P.S Don't even think about paying in...
Read moreWent for a quick snack with family and friends, lined up while browsing and deciding what to have. The place was busy but it wasn't packed full still had a few tables available. My friend was ahead of me and then another behind me. My friend at the front was asked what their order was, the server was very abrupt and sounded frustrated, you could tell they wanted to rush the orders, we gave each other looks and brushed it off, luckily a lovely lady done my order and I tried to be quick about it. My friend behind me had the same server as the first. Immediately was asked what they could get them, she was again abrupt and had a very rude tone. When my friend couldn't decide still the server sighed and had their arm resting on their waist, showing such behaviour while serving others is not what you expect. We get and understand a busy day and you MUST BE TIRED, but to treat customers with such attitude is such a turn off, if you're tired and fed you shouldn't be serving customers! You make the place look terrible. The food was lovely but the service was unfortunately lacking. Such a shame really. Hopefully when we go back that server won't...
Read moreThe location, atmosphere, food, price and service were in short amazing.
Before entering the food store the food aroma was incredibly strong and smelt delicious. I enter the store which was designed like a small café selling bakery items paired with hand made hot drinks. The line was short yet big as there were a lot of customer eating in and taking away. However when my order came I ordered the Beef like chill & chickpea pastry.
IT TASTED AMAZING. The pastry is cooked fresh everyday in the morning, the seasoning was perfect, the pastry was packed with the filling and it had an alright ratio of meat to veg filling. The pastry rating is a 9/10. As for the price; IT WAS INCREIBLY CHEAP for takeaway and 50p more for eat in. I paid around £4 for the baked pastry.
Side note the first bite was the best bite as all the streaming hot flavours came out in an instant and with the amazing...
