Gave in to my 15 year old, who wanted a Costa after a shopping trip. The first thing to hit me was the noise, I kid you not, it's like being on a building site!!!. I really could have done with a pair of ear mufflers as I joined the large snake like queue. The next was the Smell of gorgeous coffee aromas, I assume it was this that intoxicated me to the point that I now felt invested enough to stay in the queue, which barely moves. The next was the clattering of the cutlery, I actually thought at one point, that I was in a pre school or that it was an unknown ritual I was unaware of. Next was the amount of people stumbling over their orders once at the ordering point, I can only assume much like myself, I'd be waiting that long (20 minutes at least!!!!) I'd simply forgotten where the hell I was!!!. Moving along the processing train waiting for the order, I looked with sympathy at the person behind who was now in panic, trying his best to remember what the heck he wanted with shouts across to his companions to clarify!. Once we'd made our order ( £6.50), for 2 drinks, I definitely contemplated my career choice, should I like it that much & it was to be a regular treat!. My daughter and I briefly considered sitting in, but decided if we wanted to hold a two way conversation, it was probably best to go outside & sit on a public bench, especially as the Costa tables outside were mostly taken & those that weren't were full of rubbish/litter & smokers!!!. After all said & done I was expecting big things, but sadly it just didn't measure up to expectations. After purchasing a £1 can of spray cream from a local supermarket, it was just ok. How people afford this on a regular/ daily basis is beyond me & I certainly wouldn't consider it a...
Read moreThere must be half a dozen or more Costa Cafes in & around Reading...but....this has to be the BEST one for a friendly atmosphere & personal service. A nice large café it has more room than the others & is conveniently situated only a few yards away from a large FREE car park & the bustling village precinct of Caversham. Unlike other reviews about this café the writer is not biased by monetary gain or political motives LOL. It has FREE wifi & is nicely placed in the centre of the village. The are some tables & chairs outside where you can enjoy the sun or promenade & simply watch the world go by.
April 2017: Costa Caversham has just been completely refurbished with new tables & chairs & counter etc. Looking really nice now and a...
Read moreA bit dated/worn out interior with light bulbs flickering and everything looking like they've already seen their best days. Wifi doesn't work either even though it is advertised.
The atmosphere is very loud most of the time with lots of children screaming. In particular, this is not a place for a nice relaxing cup of your favourite hot beverage or occasional study/working.
The coffee is okay, tea is served from bags. Service is friendly and the staff seems to do their best to keep everything tidy.
You can also sit outside but with the road always busy with heavy traffic, I don't see why anyone would prefer sitting there.
The opening times are inconvenient enough so it is not usually possible to visit there before...
