The cheese and onion roll I ordered was disappointing as the edges had gone dry and stale, likely from sitting uncovered under the counter lights for too long. Same applied to the coleslaw; the guy had clearly given me a spoonful from the top which had dried out. The cafe wasn’t very busy but it was filthy. I had to clean the sofa area before we could even sit on the chairs and the serviette came away black. The amount of food stuff on the sofa was disgusting. While we were eating, a couple of older women sat at a table with their order. All free tables were full of dirty plates and cups despite two members of staff being free behind the till area. One of the women began carrying the dirty plates and cups to the counter a few at a time so they could have room to eat. Making three trips in total. The young guy behind the counter WATCHED as she carried them! Why would you not interject and say ‘sorry let me do that for you’?! It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that if you are in a customer service position then you are expected to help the customer where reasonably possible. He didn’t even thank her! Before we left we also used the toilets. For an establishment that charges a fair amount for their food, I would expect better quality facilities. At the very least empty the damn bins before they overflow. This is something that should be checked regularly. Or just put a larger bin in if this is an issue. My advice to potential customers would be to go to one of the cafes...
Read moreI have to be honest I didn’t give warings the time of day to start with. I felt bad, they keep reinventing themselves and are brilliant at freshening up their look, products and collaborations. I think their bread is ace and often buy their sourdough and farmhouse white. They slice it for me and that is great for making toddler sandwiches (bonus) They have a new collaboration with Anonymous coffee based only 6 miles away in Rotherfield Peppard. The flat whites are now up their with the best coffee in Caversham and in addition they have an app called BRYKS which is a digital loyalty card for any bread or coffee you buy. I have had a free coffee and discount on bread already, an excellent system. The bakery looks inviting and fresh and a place someone wants to sit and savour. They often have neat little offers at the counter. The Teacakes are a particular favourite. I’m impressed with their reinvention at a difficult time post pandemic. They are a credit to caversham and...
